Gonna go ahead with a ne build and had one question. I could do the math, but don't have a lot of time tonight. Will a 750W PSU have enough power to run a I7 940, DVD rom, MB and a 1 TB HD, along with 3 case fans and 2 GTX 460 cards? I'm going to the fun site now and start placing orders.

GTX-460 = 150W X 3 = 450W

Core i7 940 = 130W

Everything else = ~100W

So 450 + 130 + 100 = 680W

Answer = No because you do not want to push a PSU over 75% of its rated output since its rated output will drop over time. Go with a 1K PSU or better.

Just my opinion......

Only because I am big on the 80% efficient PSU's now. I upgraded all my PSU's to 80% bronze and my power bill actually went down after I added 2 more GPU;s . Just a suggestion.

The PSU is part of a kit, so it's generally free. Only 2 GPU's, so that won't be too bad. If need be, I'll upgrade to a larger one. Thanks for the feedback. Order is placed. Gonna add some more cobbles to the team's output.:)

Oooops. Read your original post wrong :P OK, so your good to go.

Congrats on the the new system. And thanks in advance for spending hard earned cash to add stones to the team coffers. \m/ :-bd \:D/ <:-P

w00t! :D I can already see that second 100Mil MM coming up for you in the next six months with that rig! ;)

Nice. Which PSU is it, do you have a link for us? 750W should be just fine with 2 GPUs. If you like to O/C real hard, you might push ~600W in that rig, so that's only 80% of the PSU output. If it's a decent one, you'll be great!

Here it is.

And threw in an extra 6GB memory kit for a total of 12GB.

Well Christmas came early, no thanks to Customer support who estimated delivery, another 10 days out. Noticed when I placed the order that the memory kits didn't match. 3 sticks 1333mhz and 2 sticks 1600 mhz. Not that big of a deal I thought. Tried to catch the shipment before it left the warehouse and then they got everything screwed up and didin't get it straight until yesterday. Was going to wait, until all of a sudden, everything said out for delivery. Unwrapped my stuff tonight and found the case was dented. Have to go out to Jason's tomorrow and take down a tree, so I called them since they;re on the way and they said they would exchange it. Going to get what I can assembled tonight and the rest tomorrow. Happy Days!:)

It might just be me but it seems like the universe is against crunching right now. Many of us have had hardware problems and then there is projects going down. Did we somehow piss off the Chinese or something??

That is not a good omen........This is my 666th post..........RUN AND HIDE!!

Yep. I'm down 6 i-7's and two 5970s. And crunching a project with the slowest validator known to BOINC.

And does this mean you're going to stop posting, joker? ;)

You seem substantially less evil now. Not sure what changed... And since you're online, why aren't you in the chat room?

Still running through a buttload of MW here. Wish that would happen all the time. Too bad about all the other outages.

Well, dad hasn't posted in here yet, but we got his i7 up and running on Saturday evening. It pulled 40 Primegrid WU's right away (but unfortunately no more even though we had it set to pull 8 days of work). It turned those around by morning to get a nice quick 180k. We added it to collatz to make sure that it would keep continuous work and not stay down since dual-GTX 460's sitting idle would be a HUGE waste of computing power.

Once we got it up and running with WinXP 64-bit I noticed that windows was only recognizing 8GB of the RAM. I know this is not a windows thing because xp 64-bit is supposed to be able to recognize up to 128GB. So I thought maybe some of the sticks were bad but then ran CPU-Z and noticed that all 6 DIMMs were being recognized. Haven't had a chance to run through a memtest but I am anticipating that they will all pass since they are recognized in CPU-Z. Tried searching for a jumper on the motherboard that restricted it but did not find one.

That's a sweet looking rig you got there. Hope you get your memory "problem" figured out. I am curious as to how many credits those 2 cards put out in a day.

Just don't try to start any, "friendly competition" between the team members with your new hardware. I'm already itching to pull the trigger on some newer hardware myself and I'd hate to have slap anyone for trying to take over my current position in the team!

I've been eyeballing your position already and have a hankerin' to knock you down a notch
