And yeah, I think I think I'm going to let the "Maxwell Spanker Cometh" comment go. While it is true of joker's mom, I don't think this is the forum to discuss that.

It actually took me almost an hour to do that, as I did it in Paint and because the original pic is in color, made it really difficult to work with. Not having as steady a hand as I once did, doesn't help when working at the pixel level either. Especially after several beers while trying to draw straight lines freehand and then having to retouch all the lettering because the original format kept screwing with the work I was trying to do every time I did a cut-n-paste.

BUT, it was really fun and I had a blast doing it, hoping everyone would get a good chuckle out if. I'm still getting a good laugh out of it, hahahaha!

One of my better, "Too much time on my hands", moments!

Ok I wasn't ready for this thread to die,. I'm looking for a 1000w PSU or 2? I've read that BFG Tech is going bankrupt or already has? They did however make a good product as far as i know. this would be running a system with 2 470's, a 5850 plus the normal stuff. It's not so much as it dieing as it is, It taking out the rest of the computer when it goes. I just want to make sure this BFG Tech EX-1000 is a $200 PSU, cheep because It has no support and not just because its a cheep PSU.

Yes, it is a solid unit, that's for sure. HardOCP did thorough review on it and I was impressed. It has 36Amps on each of (4) 12V rails, and they are split correctly, so that you can run triple "dual GPU" cards off 6 PCI-e plugins, and the 4th rail goes to the mobo, CPU and molex/sata connectors.
It's a bit of a gamble, without a warranty and all, I suppose - but one I gladly took, because anything comparable is going to be like twice the price. Can't beat it for a single Franklni! ;)

My first and only experience with BFG was a bad one. My very first GPU was a BFG. Only half the cores worked. That kinda ruined me on them lol

Not to say they normally make crap that only half works...i figure it was just my unlucky day. Of course when i called them about it, they had no idea what to say.

Man, JPM...dunno what to say on that one! Bad luck, I guess. Really sorry to hear that. I think BFG really made some good products in their day, though. And, they made PSUs before they made GPUs, and had quite a good following in the O/C and gaming arena for a while.

Has to be a personal decision, though. I was cool taking the chance on the DrPop rig with the BFG 1KW PSU, because that thing is major beefy for the price. Here is the HardOCP review (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/07/28/bfg_ex1000_1000_watt_power_supply/) on it.
The mere fact that it can put out 984W of its 1000W on the 12V rails - that's 82Amps on the 12V - is impressive enough. For $100...I just couldn't pass up the gamble. I suppose you can ask me in 2 years if it was worth it. :D

I got my own, (yesterday) Hoping with I fire my rig up next week it doesn't burn the house down. I've never run 3 gpu's before hell i have never ran 2 gpu's. If it works i'll order my 2nd one the same. I just don't see my 850w handling it.

Depends on the video cards. Any GPU with a single 6 pin PCIe cable can draw a max of 150 Watts. That's 75W for the PCIe slot + 75W for the PCIe power cable. Now a GPU with a 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power cables can draw a max of 300W. That's 75W (slot) + 75W (6-pin) + 150W (8-pin).

1 5850 and 2 470's

1 5850 and 2 470's

OK, the 470 uses two 6-pins. That means a max draw of 225W x2 for 450W. The 5850 uses the same setup which equals 675W max total for all three cards. 850W (PSU) - 675W leaves you with 175W for the rest of the system. But since you should not load a PSU over 80% of max capacity, Due to PSU degradation over time, I would recommend a 1000W or better PSU.

Edit: These GPU power draw numbers do not factor in OverClocking.

Yeah, F$ is right. You could do it if the 850W is a strong one, and you weren't worrying about the longevity of it...kind of like just "running it till it dies" mode.

If you have plans for the future of that 850W, better to throw it in another rig with only 2 GPUs, and get the 1KW PSU for the 3 GPU rig. That's why I got the 1KW PSU too...someday I will be able to fill that 3rd slot on the DrPop rig! ;)

some day? is that the same as next week? I'm pretty stoked about this build :) They will be over clocked whats the point of buying the 470's over the 460's if your not going to?

You could say that not OC'ing is just poor form. Which is all the more reason to go 1KW or better. The sucking part about going high power is the "Premium" price attached to such PSUs. Although once your committed to that level, the price difference between a 1000W unit and say a 1200W unit isn't too extreme. At least for the most part....
