ive had one before and it worked great. i need a chipset cooling fan. but i dont want the whole new heatsink i just need a fan no bigger than 1.375 in. the heatsink in there is the typical copper fins so i can place this fan on it and screw it down right into the fins. perfect and cheap. anyone have one laying around? they'd likely be in older box's? or where i can find one to plug right in?

Hmmm....is this a 40mm size fan? They are at Fry's for $5.99 - I just bought one to replace a frozen one on BOK's old server board. Or is the fan you need smaller than that?

What you are looking for is a 35mm = 1.37"

I went with a 30mm maybe our heatsinks are a little diffrent but 30mm is 1.1" Pretty close.

FYI: Just to let you know that many Tivo units (Series II IIRC) and other DVRs like the Hughes Tivo clones all used 35~40 millimeter 12V DC fans to exhaust heat at the back end. I don't remember if they are 2 or 3 wire units. So if you know anyone that has an old/dead unit then you can salvage one from that.

And of course, JPM can't help but respond with some insanity

40mm fan (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=123&products_id=21898)

If the mount is 35mm, screw in one corner and ziptie the opposite corner.

Is there a difference between a fetish and a fixation?

Is there a difference between a fetish and a fixation?

Essentially it is a matter of degree or level of actualization.........
The former being more tactile than the latter. :P

Are these the low profile fans, about 1/4 - 3/8 thick? I'm sure I can scavange 1 or 2 or 3 up. I usually pass these by when I'm grabbing useful parts. I think I might have some in my fan box at home, or can find them here.

They are prob the least useful, but great for cheep motherboards with undersized chipset heatsinks. If you're overclocking on a cheep board you will prob find the need for these, other then that I don't know of any.
