I still havnt sold myself the idea yet... but I figured having the electric in place cant hurt either :D

The only bummer might be that "8 +12V rails" comment. If you aren't planning on needing that many +12V connections, you'll be leaving power stuck on the rails! :)

Hammer has been dropped....

I changed up the power supply to a 1200 watt one.. Didnt need "All" that 1500 watt so saved a few pennies it seemed..

Now to wait....

Love the HAF case, thats what I just stuck my 570's in, I'm only using a 700 watt psu for those and an I7 920.

Dorsilfin
12-16-10, 05:32 PM
is 700 watts enough?

Under load each card pulls around 300 watts, and then motherboard + processor wouldn't leave any headroom or even overtaxing

im on a 1200 watt PSU just so I have a comfort zone to work with

DrPop

His i7 setup is probably TDP 130W, + (2x) TDP 220W + ???W RAM, Fans, HDD, DVD, etc.

He's probably real close to the limit without much O/C. He can run it like that for a couple years without much problem. After maybe 2+ years @ 24/7 use, his PSU will get "tired" and where it puts out only about 650W - 550W (depending how good it is), and that's when trouble starts knocking...;)

The difference is, you have some major O/C headroom and even maxed out will be using less than 75% of your 1200W PSU, so yours will last pretty much forever if its a good one.

Well its been over 3 months..

the system is solid and stable with no major issues.

The components are happy as can be and the GPU's are now moderately overclocked for the past month or so.

The dual GTX 570's are pulling around 1.2 million credit a day on primegrid.

the six core 1090T amd was doing around 22-24K on androinc

All in all.. I think its a great machine. Now, If i had to do it all over again.. I would have spent half as much, bought a midtower smaller psu and only gotten 1 card..

Its OVERKILL for any gaming I do... but its a solid contender for crunching lol!

Just figured id do a status update since its been running for a few months.

Im still waiting to win the lotto... like a really really big lotto..

A, Id offer computers to all team members.. IE super machines like this..

and B.. id buy an office type building, and have a professional server room built with rack after rack of servers and GPU machines..
Id like to think id aim to have at least 100 million credits a day farm... =)

Maybe I could even hire team members to live near by and monitor and work at the farm lol

Oh to dream!

I'm not saying not to buy a million computers if ya win a lotto but how about lobby at the white house to make distributed computing tax deductible :)

Now, THERE's an idea! You know, if you donate to the Salvation Army it is...so why not BOINC donations? I'll bet a LOT of businesses would run BOINC on their rigs if that were the case, LOL! :D
