Sorry, I'm dense when it comes to GPU's.

Which projects support this GPU card?

Are these cards better/faster/more productive credit wise with more memory?

NewEgg has the 4850's priced at $100 or more. So, that's like getting a 4850 for the price of a 4830 or getting 40% off. Pretty good deal.

The HD 4850 is a double precision card, so it will crunch any ATI project at present including MW, DNETC, Collatz, and since 48xx cards support OpenCL, also includes PG's ATI app.

How good is the card? 60-75K est. per day on MW. It has the same 800 stream processors as the HD 4870 but with slower clocks. OC it and you may get 80-90K per day like a 4870 gets.

The card WILL dump the heat into your computer case. There isn't a full heat shield which means needing good case ventilation, especially if you plan to OC it. Kevint was a huge fan of the ASUS Dark Knight series cards which had a similar setup with the heat sink. With good case fans moving a lot of air, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you have a free PCI-E slot, it is a cheap way to increase your output and/or delve into the world of ATI GPUs.
