Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
Beer! Glad to see you on the boards!
I had a look at the top 60 computers on Primegrid. Some of them use AMD CPUs, but none of them are Ryzens. Shouldn't be too long before someone tries one out and we can see the results.
I did find this though:
Quote:
Ryzen 7 1800X @stock - Built-in BOINC CPU Benchmarks: 4536 FP MIPS, 15295 Integer MIPS
Ryzen 7 1700 @3.9GHz - Built-in BOINC CPU Benchmarks: 4755 FP MIPS, 16497 integer MIPS
Ryzen 7 1700 @3.6GHz - Built-in BOINC CPU Benchmarks: 4351 FP MIPS, 13611 Integer MIPS

Thanks. I will lurk around myself. First I have to come up with some sort of lame excuse to build a computer though. These days we have 2 lappys, which cover our needs just fine......

IIRC Beerdrinker was a master of BS =))
Hey BD, fantastic to see you on the forums!! It has been a very very long time and it is wonderful to have you back !
Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
From the reviews I have read, the 8-core version looks very competitive with the intel 8-core chip. And way way cheaper. The only thing that looks concerning is the number of PICe lanes. Don't plan on running GPUs in more than two PCIe slots.
Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
Yeah, AMD got a winner again. Finally. Things are looking better for the competition in the x86 CPU front! :D
Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
Geez Beer....I thought you fell into a beer barrel and couldn't (or didn't want to) get out. Good to see you again.

I will look into it definately. But since I am no REAL tech freak, I will probably go for a single GPU - if I can scrape enough dimes and quarters together....

Not really. But sometimes I wish it were true though...I really get some "beating" at my job once a while...But thatīs the price of responsibility...I am always at work...But at the other hand, I am more secure in this job...
Great so see you again also!

Hey Bryan. Great to see some old faces still hanging around here! Itīs great being back!
Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
Beer! Way cool to see you again. I'm glad the job is secure as I ran into that myself recently. Hope the family is doing well.
Re: AMD "ryzen" performance.
Here's my 1700 non X : http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?p...hostid=3839262
Compare to my 5960X: http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?p...hostid=3847304
The 1700 is running at 3.625ghz, 2667mhz dram
The 5960X is running at 4.25ghz, 3000mhz dram
Both are running Linux and crunching FAAH on WCG.
The 1700 is pulling 173W at the wall, and the 5960X is pulling 305W
The cost of my entire 1700 system with a nice case and an AIO cooler was still less than what i paid for the 5960X :(
1700 = money well spent :)
