Okay, so no one is sitting on a board. I managed to get the power connector off the board with the intention of soldering in a new one, unfortunately I can't find a replacement 8 pin, board mounted, cpu power connector. Does anyone know where I might find one?
Something like this? Although there must be places cheaper than Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/10X-pci-Conne...ower+connector
https://www.moddiy.com/products/8%25...52d-Black.html
Well, the problem was more than the connector. Looks like this board is toast.
Dang!
Well, my next step will be to swap out the cpu with its sister system to make sure the cpu is still good. If it is I'll just keep my eye out for a reasonable used board.
Well that sucks.....
V1 or V3?
The best I can find on new is this....
https://www.amazon.com/GAMEPOWER-Mot...n%3A2057506011
But it is an X-79 older gaming board
The X-99's are running about this much......
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-USB-3-1-...n%3A2057506011
And then there is this v3 here.... (which will run your v1 chip)
https://www.amazon.com/LGA2011-v3-Op...n%3A2057506011
All of them will handle two decent cards and the last one will run DDR4 memory
All of them at $140.00ish or so and you get the advantages of amazon's instant return if it's a bad one....
Ebay is probably cheaper, but I wouldn't trust Ebay buying a spitball....
I appreciate the research. I'm a little concerned about the non-branded boards, though I am looking for as cheap a fix as possible. Before I jump to a new board I'm going to desolder and clean and check the traces to see if I damaged anything during the repair...it ain't unheard of.
Is it a dell or HP board that fried?
You can't overclock a T3600 board :D
Up and running again. Thanks for all the suggestions.
What board did you go with?
I went with a new unbranded board...not without some reservations. It's worked flawlessly. I did have a problem initially with the cpu running at 1.2 ghz. Turned out that in addition to losing the psu which burnt the board, I also lost the H100i cooler. Basically everything went to hell and I rebuilt it starting with only cpu and memory. I replaced the H100i with a Hyper 212 and the 3930k @100% load @3.8ghz now has all cores at 40c or below.
I should have bought a hyper 212, those things are an amazing value.
