That's only if you LET them. If you block the ads then no spyware. This is why I like Firefox. Mozilla does not put spyware in their apps and has a framework (Add-Ons) for improving privacy via the work of 3rd parites. It is true that nothing is 100% effective mainly because privacy and security were not big concerns with the experiment that never ended (a.k.a. The Internet). In fact the original TCP/IP protocol stack is a fairly lousy setup both in terms of privacy/security and efficiency. Compare TCP/IP to say, Netware. Utterly atrocious by comparison. But TCP/IP was free and Novell wanted a King's ransom so there you have it.
