I was thinking about getting 7970s for FireDragon. It looks like the prices are rising? What is that about, I thought they just had a price cut last month. Could it be because current 7970 chip sets are drying out before the rumored Ghz edition (can't find release dates for those yet)?
Here is an example. Newegg and Amazon have recently increased the price of the Gigabyte 1Ghz cards. As of the time of this writting, if you google the part number, google shopping will show them as $500, but follow the link and they are $595. TigerDirect still has them at $500, I think I will go that route.

I've been wanting a pair of 7970s for some time and was just about to order some for when I get back home. This morning I also noticed both newegg and amazon cranked the prices up since just last night. Has Nvidia announced (or have the retailers just now realized) that they are having problems with output of the 600 series and the retails are taking advantage?

IIRC the issue is not nVidia per se but rather the company that produces the GPU chips for AMD & nVidia. I do not recall their name but the article I read stated that this company had unexpectedly raised their fee even tough they were having quality control issues. It was also rumored that there was a good chance this GPU chip fabricator was planning another price increase. So in a nutshell they are black balling AMD & nVidia.
Weird, the prices are back down at newegg already.
That is wierd, too bad for them I would have bought 2 from them. Too bad for me, it cost me 8 dollars in shipping and possibly the free games that I don't need.
Amazon dropped their price back to $499 today. Guess I picked a bad day to shop for it. At least they all didn't drop their price below what I paid. Looks like the new cards will arrive tomorrow, sweet.
Sweet!! A million a day per card on DiRT I believe. Maybe it was Donate I forget now.
DiRT is the sweet spot on these cards. Close to a million per day per card.
