Personaly i would be concerned with that motherboard working out of box with that Ivy... That MB was made before the ivy was available and may not work without a bios update and may need to research wether it will support that ivy, so i would sugest using a MB that will suport that CPU like the Z77 chipset that way you can also use the new features available like the onboard gpu and also support for pcix 3.0 but that just my 2cents.

I believe what he means is that if the mobo is older - say, made before Ivy Bridge came out, it may need a BIOS update before it will run with the Ivy Bridge CPU in it. It is certainly going to be compatible - it is more of a question of "compatible out of the box" or not? That is the issue. If you have an older Sandy Bridge CPU on hand to boot with and then do the BIOS upgrade, this is a moot issue. If not, then they're just saying to be careful and get a mobo you know will work with an Ivy Bridge CPU right from the start.

MSI did not make a BIOS update for my motherboard witha 67 series chipset so it could run Ivy Bridge. Better make sure that one can. And odds are, you'll need Sandy Bridge chip to boot it with in order to update your BIOS, as DrPop said. No one is unpackaging all these boards, updating the BIOS, then repackaging them.

ITS ALIVE!!! Booted up on the first try too!
I opted to go with the MSI Z77A GD65 mobo.
I also went with the HAF 922 case and replaced all the fans with blue ones. I also special ordered a side panel with a window from CM.

I think this was built for a brother that was not in to 'crunching'.
