Also if you're using Nvidia GPUs, it's good to start early so the seti server can determine which cuda version runs best on your system. It was supposed to do that all along but there was a bug they recently fixed.

Well yeah, if you are going to use stock apps. But don't do that!

Use the Lunatics optimized apps. They are available for CPU, ATI/AMD, and nVidia....and MUCH faster than the stock apps.

But the best way to optimize your apps, for windows machines, is the all-in-one installer, which installs the Lunatics apps via simple GUI. It's just too easy.

And if you want to fiddle with the number of concurrent tasks, and CPU reservation, you can use app_config.xml along with app_info.xml just fine.

Ooo! That sounds like a challenge! Tool bad I'm split with trying to make first to #1 at BitCoin Utopia, so I have only my nvidia cards for this.

Oh! A tip for folks participating in the challenge: There are two different sub-projects at SETI@home: MulitBeam (aka SETI@home v7), and AP (AstroPulse v6). Both pay about the same credits. But AP run time is HUGE compared to MB. And this project requires a quorum. So stick to MB/v7 for a quicker quorum validation.

I will also only be using Nvidia cards. The ancient ATI 5870 will be busy with something else. Dunno what yet though...

Thanks Z and JPM for the dialogue, that helped. I just turned our two i7 rigs onto SETI, along with the nVidia GPU tonight. I signed up under Pisces. Let's go get 'em!

I'm undecided if I want to crunch the XEONs for this. How big of a challenge is it? I have to weigh against the noise and the electric cost ... at least the two daily drivers are in.

Maybe you'll feel like passing a certain few people after this thing gets going, but i'd say leave the Xeons off.
