    Nvidia 334.89 Driver

Any experiences with this new driver? Boinc impact?

Long boring discussing on changes in cpu usage for gpugrid with a recent nvidia beta driver, but at the end this comment has peaked my interest :
"Hello: In Windows 8.1 since I installed the latest Nvidia driver (a couple of days) 334.89 behaves like Linux, (for some time now) the CPU load is reduced to 10-20% (varies according to the task type) instead of 100% previously.

The overall performance of the GPU hardly altered and the change improves load / performance / consumption ratio."

I will installing to Sunday and testing it out. No choice really, it adds support for the Titan Blac

    From the release notes:
NVIDIA PhysX System Software - version 9.13.1220
    • NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration is available only on systems with GeForce 8-series and later GPUs with a minimum of 256 MB dedicated graphics memory.
    • NVIDIA GPU PhysX acceleration is not available if there is a non-NVIDIA graphics processor in the system, even if it is not used for rendering.

I didn't know that, I was planning on moving a r9 280x out of this pc and making it all NVidia again anyway.

So far so good. The driver does decrease the % of CPU used by GPUGrid. CPU went from 90%+ to 11%. It also decrease the GPU load. With the 3332.21 driver I was getting gpu usage as 90% with one wu/gpu and 97% with 2 wus/gpu. Now I am getting gpu usage of 85% when doing 1 and 92% when doing 2. It will be many hours before I can tell if there is any effect on runtimes.

If you run projects where CreditNew is used, 85% vs 99% doesn't matter because the [socialist] algorithm in CreditNew grants credit according to hardware, and not actual work done. It's like having unions for CPUs and GPUs. :-)

That's too bad, because if I understood that correctly, trying to get the most out of your system won't get you any real benefit? Do we have a thread that discusses CreditNew? I should get got up on that whole business. I have yet to see a post that mention CreditNew is a good way.

It is nice to have the CPU's back for crunching on other projects. I plan to stick with this version of the driver until something ugly is discovered.

Well crank up and old P4 rig and you will really appreciate making the same credits as a I7-4770K ... so it isn't all bad Progressive crunching ... evens the playing field!

I haven't noticed anything though I haven't looked real hard either...

    Btw....

This is intentional on their part. Until recently, a lot of hardcore gamers were doing mixed GPU setups. They would use a low/mid grade CUDA for the PhysX as it's mostly CPU intensive and use a high end Radeon for the graphics. Made for a really uber-frag machine.

    Re: Nvidia 334.89 Driver

It looks like the driver has slowed down the GPUGrid tasks. The only comparable type I have is Santi. When running 2 wus/gpu with 332.21 driver both wus take 11.5 hours (I don't have 1 wu/gpu numbers for Santi). With 334.89 driver 2 wus/gpu takes 13 hours; 1 wus/gpu takes 7.5 hours (so for me 2 wus/gpu on gtx 690 engines has benefit).

    Benefit: decrease CPU usage
    Negative: increase wus times

When I add in the new GPU today, I will likely reinstall to 332.21. Still deciding on that.

Glad I thought about it a little more, I have to keep the driver for the new GPU.
