    WUProp Hours Question

I'm in a weird situation where there are a few projects that I actually DON'T want credit for...

I'm #1 in the world in Bozos, which, while meaningless in the grand scheme of things, is something I don't want to give up. So for the seven projects where I have over 100M and less than 101M, I don't want more credit, as that would bump those projects off the Bozos list for me.

So, hypothetically for now, at least, if I were to crunch Primegrid (for example) under the Hydra account, but had WUProp going under my account, the hours would count for me, right?

    Re: WUProp Hours Question

I only add projects that I intend to take to 1M on my main account. I have a couple of "junk" accounts that I use for things like Sztaki etc that will never have high credits. Running WuProp on the main acocunt gets me the hours.

The nice thing about the junk account is if you do ever get enough credits in one of the "junk" projects you can change the email address to your main account and move the credits over ... as long as the main account has never had the project setup. I've done this a number of times.

    Thanks, guys.

And good to know about that trick, Bryan - I had thought about it, but wasn't sure it would work. Glad to hear it does.

    Re: WUProp Hours Question

Here is another question: How are WUProp hours calculated? It is wall clock time, or is it based somehow on CPU time? I'm asking because I'm running a slow quad core laptop for hours only. If I set it to ncpus=8, would I accrue WUProp hours twice as fast?

    Re: WUProp Hours Question

I believe it is wall time for each task. So yes, running 2x the tasks, taking twice as long, should do the trick.

    Re: WUProp Hours Question

I don't think it will it will work. I'm may be mistaken, but I think the CPU tasks work off of CPU time. I think I tried it quite a while ago and WuProp saw through my feeble attempt You can certainly do that on GPUs and it does work.

That's what I was afraid of... I have noticed that the hours don't seem to be ticking up as fast as I was thinking they should be.

    Re: WUProp Hours Question

I am pretty sure it is wall time, not CPU time. Otherwise, We s=would never be able to get any stars for the quake projects (for example).

Could it be that they record run time for NCI projects? I just checked my activity for the computer in question, and, for the CPU projects, I had much closer to 96 WUProp hours (24 x 4 cores) in any given 1 day period while running NCPUS=8 than I did 192 WUProp hours (24 x 8 threads).
