The seller is only the bad boy if Intel decides to care, but they never have in the past and see no reason why they ever would. When the topic first came up i read Intel's legal position on the ES CPUs on the Intel site. Legally, possessing an ES is not illegal in even the slightest way.

Well, legal or not... I'm pretty stoked about this E5-2670v3! So far, so good... and it out-computes an i7-5960K at less than 1/3 the price

Sounds like a big win-win. I wonder how many sellers I can spoof? "Hi! I'm with Intel and we want our CPU back. If you don't send it to us, we will send you a bill for the continuous lease of the CPU due at the end of each month until you return our property."

Starting to see Xeon E5 26xx V4 ES units on Ebay... under $550 for 16 Broadwell-EP cores? I might be replacing my 5820k sooner than later

If it weren't for those pesky taxes...

I convinced the boss to buy the 2690 V4's rather than v3's and not only do you get more cache and more cores at the same speed and TDP, it worked out $105 cheaper too.
