    Win10 shutting machine down

Ok, before I explain, yes I checked the sleep/hibernate etc. settings. Everything is good.

So, for some unknown reason, since Microsoft forced Win10 on me (after months of saying no), my quad core lappy will shut down by itself in a pretty short amount of time if I am not using it. This is clearly a problem for a BOINC'er.

Does the new OS cause more heat issues, forcing the laptop into thermal?

Has anyone else had this issue?

might be windows update, go to control panel, admin services, scroll down to windows update then select disable.

    you could try that

I've had this issue on Bootcamp'd iMacs, but not on any other machine. It doesn't really shut down, but it goes to sleep and never wakes up.

Its done a few mini updates, but still shuts down regardless if I am not using it after a little while. I keep checking settings like I have forgotten something.

That could be it. I just need to fix it. I have a PG SOB wu that is 28 days late and still has 1250 hours left.

Some of the people that had this issue solved it by updating or re-flashing their BIOS.
In many cases there was not a new BIOS out for their laptops.
When that was the case, they found directions to downgrade their BIOS with an older one so they could turn around and then flash the most recent one because many of the flash utilities don't allow re-flashing the same version.

A majority of these people had ASUS laptops/ultrabooks.

I'll look into that, this is a Lenovo.

The resolution to this was the same as with another laptop, it suddenly just cannot handle the heat anymore from GPU projects. Yes, fans and vents were cleaned, just had to shut down the GPU.

So lost the services of another GPU in my "arsenal".

Monster lappy cooler scrounged up, little lappy staying on and its GPU is back in business.

Ok, it didn't work for Moo. Using a different GPU WU of lesser heat to see if it holds.
