Jose Medeiros Ferreira funeral on Wednesday at 15:00
The funeral of José Medeiros Ferreira will be held on Wednesday at 15:00 in the Prazeres Cemetery, Lisbon, leaving the body of the Palace of Galveias, which is in burning chamber, at 14:30.
José Medeiros Ferreira, who died yesterday at age 72, was foreign minister of the First Constitutional Government (1976-1978), led by Mário Soares, when he worked on the development of Portugal's accession to the European Economic Community (EEC).
Medeiros Ferreira, university professor was born in Funchal, on February 20, 1942 but grew up on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, and was deputy to the Constituent Assembly and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the First Constitutional Government. In 1985, he founded the Democratic Renewal Party, but was currently a member of the Socialist Party.
Medeiros Ferreira was associate professor of history at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. Was Member of Parliament (1986-1989) and was several times elected to parliament three times as head of list of PS-Azores in 1995, 1999 and 2002.
José Manuel de Medeiros Ferreira also wrote a weekly column in the Daily News and was sports commentator of Antena 1, which represented the Benfica in "Great Fans" program. He was also a regular commentator on SIC and TVI.
