That would be the "Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search" (http://mersenne.org/) a.k.a Prime95. They offer Cash Rewards for finding Primes which means you could crunch that project for years and never make a cent....

The app they use, Prime95, is one of the most widely used utilities for stress testing CPUs.

Basically, the logic is that if you are an unreliable user, they aren't going to pay you. It uses your internet connection (and almost no CPU resources), so it's not really costing you anything to run it. Once you run it for a while, you will likely get validated (I've been validated, so I really do earn money from it).

I *think* that if you live in a more remote area with fewer users, you will have a better chance of getting validated quicker...
