I think something along the lines of your first idea would be better and more fair to those most impacted by the "monsters". Although I love the idea of a 2x credit week, word would inevitably get out and a lot of "jumpers on" would take unfair advantage.
And besides, a responsive and caring Admin (which you have certainly been) is worth far more than any credit.
