It has 2.6 sextillion numbers (2,682,561,764,939,817,403 to be exact) and over six months of crunching, but [BOINC@Poland]Voice1980 and Giorgio found a number with 2620 steps which is a new high (http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/highest_steps.php) for this project.
