The Lyrids are comming!

Next Friday the 22nd and into the morning of the 21st., the Lyrid meteor shower will peak. As you can tell by the name, the radiant for this shower is from the constellation Lyra. You can identify it by it's famous blue star Vega. (The Movie "Contact"). Vega rises about 9:00PM in the Northeast and slowly works it's way towards the center of the night sky. The Moon is going to be a problem, but if you get youself to a place where the moon is blocked you'll have better luck. This is not one of the bigger showers of the year, but it does offer about 20 meteors an hour and in a good year, up to 60. As with most showers, the best viewing will be towards dawn, when your place on the planet is heading directly into the debris stream. Good luck, clear skies and enjoy!
