View Full Version : Yoyo: GPU version for M Queens

We have now a first GPU version for the M Queens project for Windows. It requires an OpenCL 2.0 GPU. The version can be downloaded from github.com. The zip contains an installation instruction, the app and the app_info.xml.

Anybody get it run on a Radeon VII? I get errors with 2G and 8G. GPU has 16G

Hey Steve, how many Radeon VII do you have? Those fly on GIMPS for prime search world record prime number.

I got the m queens GPU app to run to my Radeon VII. I had to upgrade the driver to 20.12.1. Not sure what the min version to work is. 8GB app avgs about 5-6 minutes

Since the requirement is 8gb, and the VII has 16gb, I decided to try running two at a time. Seems to work just fine, and the run times are no longer. Sweet!

How long are yours taking 1 up? Mine took 5-7 min on avg

Same. Although it would be nice if yoyo updated their website so that it showed wall time in addition to CPU time. I guess it wasn't an issue when they had only CPU tasks.

Turns out that running 2 at a time causes instability with the machine. Random reboots. Also, CPU tasks on PG were erroring out. I switched back to running just one task at a time. That seems to remove it. Time will tell. I'll check again in the morning.

Well, now I can't get it work at all. I tried running just one task at a time. I tried both my VII and my RX 580. The driver keeps locking up and that in turn causes my PG CPU tasks to error. I thought this was going to be a way to accelerate my way to 50m at yoyo, but I guess not. Ah well.

Turns out that the problem was not with the app or the GPU, it was the host system. Problems with the CPU/mobo/DIMMs. Running memtest now to help root cause the issue.

I moved the VII to a different machine. Running 2x tasks at a time now. Currently at 36M, and I plan to run until at least 50M. Looks like it will take a few days for the pending tasks to level out, and then I can see what a daily rate will look like. I am guessing somewhere around 300k.

Confirmed. The last couple of days, I got 312k and 321k.

Get you a used RX 570 or RX 580. They don't use much juice. Set and let it run
