View Full Version : OC'ing my XFX HD 5850

So I tried installing MSI Afterburner yesterday and once the installation was complete opened it up and still had the same GPU Clock cap of 775mhz (meaning the slider is already at the end). Is there something I'm doing wrong here or do I need to go about OC'ing my card another way?

Which driver do you have?

According to the MooWrapper page, I have driver 1.4.1332. It's the CCC 11.__

Bizarre. That thing should do 900 easy. Well, we can always modify your bios with Tech Power Up's RBE...

That's what I was thinking as well. Maybe it's locked and can't be updated through CCC or MSI Afterburner and needs to be done another way?

Go to the Guru3d download page where you got your version of MSI AB and in the text they have a line (disclaimer) that MUST be added to MSI config file in order to turn on OCing.

I'm running MSI AB 2.2.0 Beta and here is my MSIafterburner.cfg file. That file is found in /program files (x86) under MSI afterburner.

I'll have to try that when I get home. Thanks!

There are a couple of lines up in the middle "Unlock Voltage" that need to be changed to 1 and then the 2 lines at the bottom. 1 gets the disclaimer statement and the one below that gets changed to a 1.

If you have a 5850 with the fan in the rear (versus the middle) you will be able to change the voltage on the card. The 5850 is a brain dead 5870 with the exact same clocking capability. The internal voltage on a 5870 is 1.1625V.

I run my 5850 (when it doesn't have a dead fan ... like now) at 950 MHz and I put the voltage at 1.1375V. Depending on the card you might have to go to 1.15V. I ran it for 2 years at the same 1.16V as my 5870s before I realized they didn't need the stock 5870 voltage levels to hit 950 MHz.

Also under the settings tab on MSI AB there is a box that needs to be checked "Unlock Voltage Control" then the top slider should show the Vcore voltage on the interface and allow you to make changes.

Holy Moly!!! Thanks Bryan. It even works for my 4850s :D :D :D

I knew someone here would have the answer. This team Rocks!!!! And so does Bryan's. \m/
