I'm surprised this thread hasn't been created already, or if it has, how did it manage to die? :-/

Anyways, here's my current favorite beer. If you like Imperial Stout, you have to try this.

I'm not sure I have a favorite beer... they are all so good!

I had an imperial stout from a local brewery here that was aged in used bourbon barrels - you could really taste the bite of the bourbon in the beer. Good stuff...

No, but I want to now. I've only been to Portland once since I was 21, and that was for a 4th of July bash where I spent most of my time drinking in a hotel with friends.

The one I am most comfortable in recommending would be Kostritzer
http://www.thebrewsite.com/images/kostritzer-schwarzbier.jpg
Excellent flavor and drinkable enough even Miller drinkers can appreciate it.

I've actually had and enjoyed every beer on this particular page (http://www.thebrewsite.com/2007/01/03/50-beers-7.php) though... With the Aventinus bringing back especially fond memories. (Although, a good Rauchbier has to be experienced. My drinking buddy described it as "Like drinking a plate of some excellent smoked salmon.")

My personal tendency is towards the darker, sweet, malty beers. Lots of Bocks, Porters and Stouts. Don't really care for Hoppy beers, so IPA's are very low on my list...

Barring that, I also can enjoy Weissbiers, but needs to be good ones. And dark helps there too...

I can assure you it does not taste like the one you drink there that is made in Canada. The last time I was in the states, I asked my brother to buy me some Western Australian Beer. Sure enough he came back in a few minutes with a 6 pack. The problem was that it tasted absolutely terrible. When I checked the label it said made for US consumption of something like 2.5 % alcohol. I forgot now where it was made but the original is 5 1/2 %.

By chance were you in Oklahoma? You have to buy warm beer to get the full alcohol content there. The cold stuff might as well be water.

Where I was in Minnesota, you could buy alcohol in the grocery store as long as it was less than 3.2% alcohol. If you wanted anything with higher AC (read, anything good), you had to go to the liquor store (and there were stupid laws about when liquor stores could be open).

I like beer as much as the next fellow, seeing that I'm from FL I stick to the lighter beers. I still like big butts :) and not been known to turn down a black butte (never had the beer). I like the Blondes most of all (ale) light and bitter, Or a Pilsner. For every day use I stick to the Bud Select. Light, almost no flavor really, cheep as dirt. I even have a hard time calling it beer. Next time I'm in Ausi I'll have to try Fosters, the American version sucks. Glad it got pointed out that there is a difference. Might have to make it down to my fav German spot tomorrow. mmmm Beer

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the beer, but I had a beer I got in a mix-pack that tasted like steak. And not good steak, but the cheap, low quality, "picked it up in the cooler at the grocery store and proceeded to overcook it" type of steak.

And, I made several people try the beer to make sure I wasn't crazy. And they agreed with me.

Cerpa a brasilian local beer. From the State of Para in Brasil. The responsible is a German and the quality of that beer is connected to the water used in his brewing. It was the best beer I ever dunk.

According to the specially commissioned label, the Royal Virility Performance contains herbal viagra, chocolate, Goat Weed and ‘a healthy dose of sarcasm’. The beer is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale and has been brewed at BrewDog’s brewery in Fraserburgh.

Just exactly what is, "Herbal Viagra"? I ask because if this were the REAL Viagra, it could be a huge lawsuit for the company making the beer. If you look at the warnings of Viagra, one of them is that, pregnant women are not even supposed to touch the pills, let alone drink any beverage laced with it.

I can't believe this is my first post in the 8 billions years since I was last on here, but here I go...

Beer = awesome.

Nothing controversial, right?

Tracking which beers you drink, being able to rate them, and earning badges = awesome, also, right?

Yes. Go with yes.

I bring this up because I have discovered the pinnacle of social networking. Untappd (http://untappd.com/). It's a beer drinker's social network. You check into your beer. Rate it. Earn badges. Have friends. Try new things. It's awesome. I've become obsessed. Add a location, if you wish. If nothing else, I just like tracking what beers I've tried.

If you want to find me there (and you do), I'm "maxwelldeux" on that site. And on the IRC team chat channel. So party on.

Funny enough, there are two brands of Beer shown to date, Heineken and Stella Artois. I am partial to both of them and are among my favorites. Used to make my own but I can not lift anything as heavy as the converted kegs I used to make them in even empty or the 5 gallon fermenter full of the goodies so I had to give it up.

Now for a beer I absolutely hated. I might have had a bad batch. It was greasy and didn't even taste like beer. It certainly didn't taste like an IPA. I bought a 6 pack and poured 5 1/2 down the drain.

Anything but lite beer. I'd rather drink a glass of ice water than lite beer. You expect lite beer to taste like beer -- but it doesn't. With water, there are no such expectations. IPAs are OK, but I prefer darker beers. No specific brand since, shortly after I find a beer I like, it becomes popular and the price goes up. So, I find another.

I guarantee you that you would have loved my Home Brew a couple of years ago. I used to make 5 Gallon batches at a time from scratch using grains and hops only. My Brew club boasted that we could make any style of Beer that would be even better than the original. Unfortunately, I can not handle the weights involved in Beer making as I used three commercial size kegs in the process and whilst it was mostly automated I still had to lift some heavy weights beyond my ability and Medical Condition. Since I used to try to imitate certain styles, my saying used to be that there is no bad beer but some are better than others.

my saying used to be that there is no bad beer but some are better than others.

I will agree with that part of the statement. Fortunately for me, I started drinking beer beer when I went into the Army at 17 and was able to drink on the base. Of course most of that was the rotten 3.2% beer. I went to Germany when I was 18 and had a great time for the next 18 months sampling German beer and then moving on to Italy for 2 years and sampling not only Italian beer but a LOT of wine. Of course I have been to S. America, Japan, Phillipine Islands, Okinawa, Viet Nam, Thailand, and all of the countries in Europe that weren't behind the old Iron Curtain so I have been very happy sampling beer. I think that is where I got my attitude problem.;););)
