We started with Katrianna's rig, "KAT", so it didn't get too late, and she could help. She was right there the whole time, learning the ropes. :) Now officially stability tested and crunching MilkyWay & WuProp for her ID, DrPop's Daughter, and Rosetta for the Pentathlon.
I should mention she is awful proud of the "Pink" on the case, and those blue fans! :D

I like the MilkyWay case badge. That's a nice touch. :-bd
And those 4870's look SO much better on a motherboard instead of a shelf. :D

lol! She will probably eat it before long. It was just to "show off" what her rig was for. :D And, I'm sure to rub it in that she now has more in MW than I do again. ;) :p

Some updates from the DrPop rig now:
Sporting all 3 GPUs - mismatched set of HD5870, GTX 460, GTX 465. Even at a screaming O/C, the 465 (O/Ced as well) still edges out the 460. But, it's putting out so much heat to do it that you could literally run one of these in the winter instead of a heater.
In fact, you know how those little square electric ceramic heaters run up your bill so much in the winter? The 3 of these GPUs on this 1KW PSU are easily - and I mean easily - putting out every bit as much heat as one of those....:p
We better have one heck of a good day in PG tomorrow, that's all I'm saying.

So you did have to put the 460 in the first slot to make it all fit. I'll try this as well.

Actually, 460 is in the middle slot because of it's cooler design. It's the one with the MSI Cyclone fan - cost $16 more than another Galaxy one would have even though I got it on Open Box special, but I wanted to try out that fancy cooler design and see if it made a difference. ;)

HD5870 slot 1, GTX 460 slot 2, GTX 465 slot 3.

What helps is to install them one at a time, slot 1, slot 2, slot 3; let Windows find each card, install the drivers, and then crunch a little in BOINC before suspending the projects, powering down, and adding the next card. Worked well when I did it this way. I learned the hard way that Windows doesn't cope with adding 3 new GPUs at once! LOL! ;) :p

Eventually I will yank the 5870 and GTX 465 and put them each in one of the twins, and put the other GTX 460's in the DrPop rig because of the heat issues...but waiting on that so I don't mess up Trigggl's commandeering of the twins on the Pentathlon. ;)

You actually had success in installing AMD based and Nvidia based boards in the same box? Amazing...who'd-a-thunk that could ever happen?

Hi Yo - yeah, Kat is learning - someday she wants to build a rig that will beat mine...a competitive little thing, even at 7! Well, she reminds me all the time, "I'll be 8 in August you know." Yes, honey, when you read this ... I know. ;) hehe

About the ATI and NVIDIA together in one rig -- yeah, I've done it in two rigs now, with 3 different mobos. Works awesome. Thing is, some of the 58xx cards ONLY like the 1st slot, so you might have to move cards around a little to make it work, but it does work good...

Yo-

the only caveat is that this only possible in Vista/Win7 for windows boxes. Not sure about Linux.
