What I learned making my 100k (DING!): If the SLinCA tasks get pre-empted because another task gets in panic mode, the SLinCA tasks restart from zero. It's as if the app thinks the "Leave tasks in memory" was set to NO, even if it is set to YES. Just to be clear, I am not talking about quitting BOINC or restarting your machine. Of course non-checkpointing tasks would restart from zero in that case. I am talking about just suspending a task and then resuming it.

And this situation happens frequently if you are running (for example) BURP because it uses all the cores. So it is always causing a few tasks to be waiting by the nature of MT scheduling.

So yeah, making 100k took a LOT longer than it should have.

That's freakin' amazing! And for several reasons! 1) Very limited work available each day, so a big farm is not much help. 2) Server is so old, it's too stupid to send 32 bit work to 64 bit windows machines. So if you have a 64 bit windows machine, you have to fake it. 3) Biggest reason of all, you have to watch your machines like a hawk! Tasks take less than 10 min to run. But about 1 in 50 will run forever, requiring you to manually abort them. The longer it takes for you to see the problem task and abort it, the more time and credits you have wasted.

I got my 1M on Yoyo early this morning. That is my 20th, and ties me for 16th place. What makes me happy is that it was pretty much all done on the PS3. This is the second project I've taken to 1M solely through the PS3.

5 million MM in PG yesterday.

I am at 2,015,00 mark for PG now. This is the only 1 million plus project I have.

To be honest, I forgot that I was over a million for PG, and did not even know about the 2 million mart until today. It does help to run only one project, or sup-project, for a long period of time that takes 15+ hours on my AMD Phenom X4 9650 @ 2.3 GHz. I have not run any other project for months and months, maybe since I reached the 3 million mark. I did notice a while back that I have the "yellow" badge for PPS Sieve, which is the only one that is not the "bronze-ish" color for PG. At least I got that for AP26 before it closed.

Now I just have to remember to abort my queue just after the challenge starts.

Maybe one day I will get a GPU card again. The one [type] I want will cost about $100 to $150. I have the basic x16 port, not the newer ones. My fixed income does not help at times when I have many things on my list to buy.

1] ATI card

2] 1.5 to 2 GB internal drive for more data, movie, etc., storage since my current internal 1 GB drive and my external 1 GB backup and "dead" storage drives have less than 50 GB left on the internal and 20 GB on the external. Many of the external files are my only copies.

3] Bigger monitor - 18 inch widescreen is getting too small sometimes.

4] printer that prints directly on the CD/DVDs.

5] new drive for my old HP laptop [2005 era] I use to use for crunching and other stuff.

and the list goes on and on for the computer related, and things like a new wheelchair [paid by Workers Comp] tops the list of non computer related items.

I just spent $70 [including shipping] for an old tablet computer to use as a reader and double as a drawing pad. It is from the Win 2000 days, but it still has some life left to in and I have a WiFi USB card that will work with Win2000, so I can have in on my network. Must use an external CD, floppy, WiFi, and other items, since there is only an internal hard drive and a USB port for the rest. Well it will be enough for what I want it for. Too slow for crunching though.

Also I picked up 100 DVD cases for less money [including shipping] than it cost for 20 or 25 locally. Ran out of them for my DVD handouts for the LibreOffice-NA.US project.

You can de-select the heaviest of sub-projects for the lower-ram boxes if need be. But I think it took down an ancient Gateway 2000 of mine last year, or at least wore it down and when I pulled NFS from it, Lieden slowly killed it.

Yes, haha I know. I have only recently made some big credits, and that is finally having my own GPU and setting it loose on PG and a little SETI. I am also leaning on Lieden and SZDG, both much worse then NFS or Einstein. I know I don't have the power to run with the big gun's of the world or the team, so there are a few projects I can help team wise with the CPU.

Holy smokes, I think that means you've got almost exactly 10X the CPU power that I do. I just rolled over 100K right before the PG Challenge. ;) I'm back on it now, though, throwing all I've got at it. We'll see how fast I can hit the 1MM there. Then I'll probably be split between Primaboinca, AndrOINC, and AQUA over time in rotation.

Regarding the "nice credits there"...any way we could er...twist your arm...um, I mean, beg you to stay on until you hit say the 2.5MM or 5MM at Primaboinca? We just took 1st overall for the team there - but it would be cool to build up a much bigger lead while the credits are good...:cool:

I have not been able to get DNETC for some time now. It just will not hand over any WUs to my Ubuntu desktop.

PrimaBoinca was mentioned in one thread I read yesterday and that was the first time I heard of it. So I added it to my queue. My Boinc Manager is telling me that over the past 12 hours I made over 2,000 credits with it. It seems to be a nice one to run for credits. Now I just need to find out how fast the turnaround is for seeing the credits on my daily records.

I never crunched it before either, but in that short of time, have made some pretty sweet credits. It seems roughly on par with AndrOINC and regular AQUA WUs. However, "best" credits will depend on exact CPU, OS and sometimes RAM installed, as some of these projects seem to run faster on AMD and some faster on Intel. I think some of our friends were reporting in the Team area that Primaboinca is favoring the AMD CPUs a bit. I'm doing a test with some AQUA WUs now to see; I'll report back in with my findings in a couple days.

I run an AMD Phemon 9650 @ 2.3 GHz with 4 GB ram and Ubuntu 10.10.

I just got my latest PG credits that put me 3K over the 4 million mark over all.

After two days, BOINCstats states over 8K of Primaboinca. Not bad there.

So now I am going to slow down and run some other projects than the highest credit ones.
