View Full Version : @nd Asus Card Died Today.

Ok the other GTX 460 died today.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'm returning it to Newegg and the question of the day is;

I have a $270.00 credit to get a higher end card or just let them replace these two cards? I'm looking for the most credits. Can I purchase one Fermi card that will match 2 GTX 460's for around $270.00? How much higher would I have to go to get one card that does what 2 cards can do?

One card will mean freeing up a pci-e slot for the future. =P~ But I don't wish to sacrifice credits today.

I'm going to put in an ATI card in this box. What could the problem be? I'm plugged into a power strip with a breaker so I don't think it's that. I'm fairly confidant that it's not a mb issue or a ps problem as everything else did not burn out. The cards that died were in different slots in the mb. I'm going to wait for a few suggestions from you guys before I call newEgg. Thanks for the help.

Yea both Asus ENGTX 460. The serial numbers are off my 4 digits. I thought that was a good thing.

Sounds like a bad batch of cards to me.

Seems my options are;

two GTX 460's $270 to $300
one GTX 480 $300
one GTX 570 $300

Most credits?

Probably do noticably better with 2 460's.

the 570 will out produce the 480, not by a lot but it will also use 10% less power to do it. the 570 is in the 600k range.

Well, my GTX 465 flashed to a "470" has a 604,919 RAC (a major OC of coarse) so I am guessing you would do well a single card for now. If I am reading this chart correctly https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AmK84VNiTf6vdHZmU0NzYm5fN181V21hNHRYSllEb VE&hl=en&pli=1&authkey=CIyG89sF#gid=0 you would get slightly better credits (and less power usage and heat) out of a GTX 570 over a GTX 480 or dual 460s. Hope that is helpful.

Thanks Joker. Helps a lot. I also have been reading the posts by Pop about one better card now fill the other slot later vs 2 low end cards. I'm leaning towards the 570 right now.

What ya think about this one? $294.00 after rebate, $335 if they never send the rebate.

GTX 570 all the way on this one. It will pretty much match 2 GTX 460s, and runs nice (cool & less power) compared to the other 400 series cards. Had I known that, I would have got 1 or 2 570's instead of the (4) 460 / 465 cards I got.

With a medium OC on GTX 570 I can get 650k per day, probably over 700 if I pushed it.

ehhh...actually according to that spreadsheet, 2 460s give you an extra 100GFLOPS over a 570. 460s also run a tad cooler than a 570 at a given overclock.

But getting the 570 will leave you with an open slot for something in the future for even more credits :D

I'm on the phone with Newegg now and returning these and getting the card above unless someone thinks otherwise?

I have been CRUSHED once again by the JPM! :((b-(:((:p JK. Guess I read it wrong (or maybe I was just trying to push him into one card so he could upgrade later :-" ) we may never know. ;)

I personally think it looks like a good deal. Lets see what JPM says first.

This is true, but we know that the 500 series has had some optimizations, and also, the 500 series O/Ces higher (runs cooler due to said optimizations, can take more voltage, etc). So, theoretically, (2x) GTX 460 > (1) GTX 570.
However, in reality, Bryan is reporting nearly the same off his GTX 570 O/Ced per day as I am off 1 pair of my GTX 460s.

If I had the money at the time and knowledge to do it over again, I would go the single 570 route.

Joker,

what you say back is look at the performance Gflops. When I made that chart I based it off of PG the 500 series has a higher FSB then the 400 series. So it produces more at the same ghz. Like a p4 vs a sandy. If they were both @ 3ghz you would get more out of the sandy then the p4 at the same ghz. Same with the Nvidia cards, in that aspect the 570 will out produce the 460’s by 100gflps.

But in my math I base a 460 on 300k and an 570 on 600k a day both are just est. between brands and conditions both can move I’ve seen 460’s that would only produce 250k and I’ve seen 570’s that would be pushing 750k but I wouldn’t call either of them normal.

I like the MSI for less

Its a good deal the 460's have come down 40-50 bucks so really hes making 100 bucks on this deal.

I would take the Evga. It already is oc'ed and there is a promo code for an additional $20 off plus the $40 rebate. Top it off with registering the card and getting a lifetime warranty. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Either way, what a sweet deal...Everyone wins. Now, looking forward to the day when I can start replacing all my GTX 460's with these or higher. :D :D :D (Ahem...I think I just had a "you're in the doghouse" moment!) ;)

Just point out how much you are saving by not paying the Cal. sales tax on line. That ought to help.

There is a sales tax in California??? :p

c303a
05-20-11, 07:03 PM
From Ballot Pedia:

California has a statewide sales tax of 8.25%. Municipalities are allowed to assess a local sales tax up to 9.25%.

The statewide 7.25% is allocated as:[1]
7.25% - State
5.00% - State of California's General Fund
0.25% - State of California's Fiscal Recovery Fund
0.50% - State of California's Local Revenue Fund
0.50% - State of California's Local Public Safety Fund
1.00% - Bradley-Burns Uniform Local Tax
0.25% - Local County - Transportation funds
0.75% - Local city/county - Operating funds

On April 1, 2009, the state sales and use tax increased by 1%, making the minimum sales tax statewide 8.25%.

Someone has to pay for all that sunshine. :D:D:D

It's already overclocked. I may be able to squeeze some more out of it and like Joker and DrPop said I'll have an open slot for another one or something better. ;)

I am getting there...:)

I has however been a bit longer than I expected.

I am looking into getting myself a 550Ti, which it seems my PSU can handle. 116W on load...( a good cool, silent one) So itīs either that or some sort of better Ati card, and then my current will go into my sons rig. (passive cooled, he will never know...Nor will the wife)

But ya know...Bills, bills, bills....But one gotta have a place to sleep, eat and all other stuff..:)
