Just thought I would stir the pot a little......

Mr. Hankey & Teratoma, I know you two have your hands full. This is not a "gotta do this now thing."

I discovered this list ---> vBulletin 4.0 Style sets, (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=247) and hoping to jump start the discussion process :P

Mr. Hankey

Please feel free to look at them and make suggestions. We are running version 4.0.7

Twilight New Moon theme anyone? :-|

Actually, one style that might be useful to folks is this one for mobile device users (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=249277). I'm not one of them, but it says it makes it more small-screen friendly...

Q. There is no style chooser - how do I get back to the default style?
A. Install and configure "Lightweight Style Options"

Sub-optimal solution: log out, return to the page as a guest. Change the style, then log back in. I got it back to Carbon doing that...

yes, I read that too, and installed that. It provides some options in the admin settings but the lightweight style doesn't actually show the style chooser so I am not sure how you are supposed to switch back. I followed the use another not logged in window to change the style.

You can select it at the bottom of most pages or set it on your "settings" page.

Whoa! Carbon always looked to me like plain black. Just now it started looking like carbon fiber (with various textures and shades of grey), not black. Has it always been like that? And now my browser is just showing it correctly? Or has something changed?

And I guess I'm the only one who likes white background and black text. Just seems so much easier to read (to me).

If I could ever lean how to do stuff like this, I think it'd be fun to do a USA red, white, and blue theme.

A lot less strain on the eyes to read light text on a dark background.. That's why DOS and things of that sort were colored like that :)

If you guys find a full CMS theme you like that supports 4.0.6+ version of vBulletin I would be happy to install it having choice is a good thing. There is always a risk during the upgrade that they won't look quite right (like the current carbon) and we need to wait for an update from the creator. Also there are supposed to be big changes coming in the 4.1 version that make custom themes easier.

When I post the new members, I like to move any previous team affiliation out to the right almost in a column. (wish I could do a column) When I try to do that here, it doesn't recognize the spaces. The old board was that way untill a MOD was put in.

I am still looking around, but so far I am not having much luck trying to fix this..... hmm.

Mr. Hankey
11-06-10, 06:52 PM
Ok what I have found so far is not helpful... check this info out:

Actually it is your browser that is stripping the spaces...

The HTML specification specifies that the user-agent is supposed to ignore whitespace. Because of this, a browser will only produce one space or carriage return even if there are multiple of each together. In order to get around this, the <pre> tag was created. It specifies to the user agent that all text should be shown as formatted.

So I can actually use columns in my text by doing this and using the <pre> tags in an html block. I may be able to create a custom bbcode to do this...

Ok, I created a custom bbcode and I used it to edit your post take a look here:

The bbcode is [wht] for white space you just include that block around the line which you want to have space in and it should work. In the post above I used the tag 3 times

If I understand the above correctly, the tag is to be used instead of the tab code from the old board.

Crud! I discovered a bug (at least for me) with the white space code.
When I try to add the following to a post

PL - Team Total - Team Day - Team Week - Team Month - Team RAC - Team
01 - 3,163,185,064 - 05,098,615 - 30,902,522 - 116,529,196 - 4,516,307 - SETI.USA

I get a double carriage return in the parsed text:

I tried that and it generates a single CR. It shouldn't give any CR's. It also seems that the white space code can cancel other bbcode tags if the [wht] tag is wrapped by other tags like [b]......

I found something else that needs attention. bbcode colors. Many colors are not currently accepted like dimgray, slategray etc. I have tried both "Color Names" and Hex codes. :(

P.S. I will give this a rest for the night and pick it up again tomorrow.

They should get some new logos rather than using their defaults, if someone would like to create or suggest a Seti.USA specific logo for each style I'll add it in..

Question: Why does the forum show a graphic as a thumbnail in a post when it would easily fit full size??

Bok
09-18-11, 05:01 PM
Updated the logos with the ones you posted. I think it looks good.

As for why it's in thumbnail, it's just a setting within vBulletin. Not sure if it can be overridden though I thought it could. I'll have to research that a little.

EDIT: Switched a setting to only thumbnail if there is more than one image.
