We need a discussion spot that's not in the Aqua thread...

New release. Been out almost a week now. Messages tab is gone, and for that we weep. :( But what about some of the other features?

* New: Project notices. This feature is designed to help projects improve communication between themselves and the volunteers by automatically displaying project news within the BOINC Manager
* New: VirtualBox Detection for projects that want to process work within a Virtual Machine
* New: New BOINC Skin for the simple GUI
* Fix: Numerous CPU/GPU scheduling fixes
* Fix: Numerous work-fetch fixes
* Fix: Adjust permissions when installed as a service so that project GPU applications are not denied access to GPU DLLs (WinXP and Win2000 Only)

The "GPU works when installed as a service" and the VBox thing seem particularly interesting... anyone test these or other features out?

"messages" are not gone, look under the Advanced tab, the bottom choice, Event Log

the messges appear in a new window

there is also a keyboard shortcut, <control> <shift> <E>

Well the new messages being a window and not a tab sucks... the new notices tab is friggin annoying and we (users) should be able to disable that if we choose.... but the huge thing I just noticed that will probably make me upgrade all of my boxes to 6.12.26 is the additional support you get from BAM when using the new client. I hadn't noticed it before today. But this is really cool

With bam you can now do this!

It did really bother me at first, but it has come in handy a time or two, to be able to watch it while I was updating a project or doing some other thing and wanted to see what was going on without switching over.

I'll wait until all you bleeding-edge techies figure out workarounds for the bugs.........

I tried it, didn't like it, switched back.

Only possible problem I noticed so far is that once when I shut it down, it was obvious it didn't really shut down the projects- cpu was still pegged at 100%. Other than that funky episode, it's worked OK so far for me.

I reformatted the lappy the other day and put this version on it. I dislike messages being hidden (duh). But even worse is that the Projects tab is no longer the first tab, and the Tasks tab is no longer the second. I form habits quickly, and breaking them is tough and irritating, especially when trying to do things quickly.

My Mom has mentioned that.................................

I found something I REALLY love about 6.12.26!

It installs with Wine. The previous version I tried wouldn't.

I'm running Gerasim on one of my dual cores right now with Wine. Another 10k, here I come.

Good news. I bet the coders didn't have that in mind and so will most likely "FIX" that error in the next release.........
