Hey Team...

I nocticed that we actually had a very decent output on FreeHal yesterday...Yep, thatīs rigth...Almost ― Mill CS done on FreeHal...

Itīs so easy points to obtain, that everyone with 1GB ram or more should be doing this!!!

I agree. Now that they have fixed it to were you have many choices on how to run it. You can have cpu intensive, non-intensive and now you can run both with your choice of 1 core or multi cores depending on what you are running in your system.

CI WUs take about 1 hour. NCI WUs take about 4 hours. If you allow more than one CI WU on your machine, you're going to be eating up a lot of your processors, and not doing nearly as well with other CPU projects. I'm allowing 1 NCI/core on my machines, and am really happy with the output. Doesn't interfere much with CPU crunching that way.

It's the first project I attach to.. All 3 rigs are running it now :)

It's been down for the weekend, but it's back up now. Check you machines, as they may be working off a really long back-off. Get them going again manually if you have to.

I agree that if you run the CI tasks that you will use a lot of processor if you allow more then 1 instance to run. I only use the NCI units. If they take longer or I don.t get as much credit it's ok with me. At least it is running and getting credit.

Check it out at the above URL. Runs using next to nothing for processor resources and is like free credit.

That was a little joke.

Have they gone back to running 25 WUs simultaneously with little or no CPU? If not, I don't see a reason to crunch this one. SIMAP and several other projects don't have enough WUs to go around but they don't limit machines to one at a time, but that's just my opinion. I'm guessing my boxes get more credit per cpu second on AQUA anyway.

You can run up to one task per thread, non-CPU. Big credits.

In my best Arnold voice...Run it, run it now! :)

Actually, I think it's one thread per physical core - my 980x only gets 6; the dual quad xeon get's eight. The AMDx6 gets six...

Naw, it's per thread. BOINC sees threads as if they were cores.

I understand that - all I'm saying is that I'm only getting 1 FreeHAL NCI WU per physical core...

Stop making me cry! =((

I'm going to have to check my smattering of machines today. Maybe I'm just the lone freak. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

I seem to have problems every time I run FreeHAL. :(

But I guess I will try it again... just like the other day I was out back banging my head on the block wall when my neighbor saw what I was doing she asked, "Why are you doing that?"

Because it feels good when I stop... duh.

I seem to have problems every time I run FreeHAL. Just curious, how much memory do you got?

Maxwell

Ok - it's got to be me and some setting I have, but I can't figure out which one or where I change it. (And yes, I have it set to 1 NCI WU per core...)

My machines:

2 threads => 2 NCI WUs
4 threads => 4 NCI WUs
6 threads => 6 NCI WUs
8 threads => 6 NCI WUs
12 threads => 6 NCI WUs
16 threads => 6 NCI WUs

Help?

Something weird is going on, and probably with the project server (what else is new?). Sometimes I get 8 sometimes 6, like you.

Still, I will put up with the idiosyncrasies so long as it isn't breaking anything on my machines. 12k+ per day in free credits.

Agreed - not complaining about the credits I'm getting. Just found it weird and would like to get more free credits if possible... :cool:

I really need a memory upgrade; 4 Gigs just isn't cutting it on my main system. :(

I get anywhere from 1 to 4 units on my Q6600 quad. Must be the server. Of course the server has always been a little funny. I just let it run. If it works ok, if not well......

I donīt even notice how many I run at a time...And frankly...I donīt care...Itīs anywhere from 500 to 1000CS per day I would not get anyway..
