I've never seen the price this low. I believe it will not get any cheaper in the near future. That is why I got two.

Ditto & why I got 4 of them, gonna try & sell off a few of the older NVIDIA's I have & get a more Balance GPU Setup. Thing I'm worried about is AMAZON coming back & saying it was a Price Misprint, their about $100 Cheaper than anybody else right now ...

Amazon's price was a price match for a Newegg special which quickly went OOS. AKAIK the price is legit. Wish I could have grabbed one for me but after just replacing a major appliance there's no fun tickets left for toys.:(

It would seem that eventually, most fans go bad on these AMD reference designs. But it usually takes a couple years, and you can always replace them. And also, by then, you are on to bigger and better GPUs anyway.

I have been a diamond owner since the S3 trio days and have always had good dealings with them.. all my ati/amd cards are from Diamond except the 4850x2 from saphire, only had to send one off due to the fan going bad that was the x800xl, usually turn arround on warranty 2-3 weeks, dont forget these have a 5 year warranty on the cards not to many folks are doing that anymore. Your milage may differ i dont ever push the overclocks to high and tipically never push the fans beyond 50% but thats just me.

Thanks for the reply. This card will not be in a case so I'm not expecting any heat issues. I usually run things at stock because my electric bill is already pretty ugly. :D

I have a Diamond 5870 that i bought when those cards first came out, however long ago that was. I have overclocked it up to 984MHz continuously for weeks without adjusting voltage, and even had it crammed into a mini tower case (with modifications to the case of course) with questionable airflow and it never let me down. They just seem to make some good quality equipment and then sit there quietly as they sell. In my experience, Diamond is good stuff.

If you are interested in a Mid-Tower case then JPM's link above includes the Fractal Design's Arc Midi - $69.99. Very nice case with lots of space inside and fan mount points that accept 140mm fans. 140's can be much quieter than 120's at the same CFM rate. And yes I have one of these cases :D

My 7970 came in yesterday. Only got to play with it for an little while. I can't believe how poorly this card does on POEM. My 5870 beats it easily with the same settings. On the other hand it does a Milkyway task in 43 seconds.
Was also surprised at the lack of any type of manual included. The included disc was useless and way out of date. You know there's a problem when the disc GUI has a PhenomX4 prominently displayed. Then when I tried to register the card on the DMM website all I got were error messages. OK, I'm done ranting but I'm pretty disappointed so far. Hopefully I can tweak it for better POEM results.

The included disc *always* has out of date drivers on it. 100% of the time, whether AMD or Nvidia based, regardless of brand. Personally i never use the discs. Just stick the card in, turn on the puter, and download. Far simpler to me since you have to do that anyway.

Considering how many of those were ordered by this team, to only have 1 fail isn't bad at all. I still say Diamond is a quality brand. The members of this forum have seen far more EVGA products fail and no one is trashing them :p

No, nothing other than to bury the needle on core clocks and lower the Mem. clocks on Afterburner. I think I just ran into the same problem with my 560 Ti x2. I tried to make GPU 0 do POEM only, and GPU 1 do Albert only (because POEM will work on only GPU 0 for some reason that they won't address). FAIL.

DDR3-1600 is 20% faster then DDR3-1333 but that is relative to CAS latency (Lower = faster). That is why RAM with higher CAS is cheaper.

Wikipedia on DDR3 ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM

John P. Myers
11-17-12, 04:20 PM
On the RAM STE\/E posted, just change the timings to 8-8-8-24, change voltage to 1.60V and it's the almost same thing. Or leave the timings alone and change it to 1600MHz at 1.65V. Easy work-around to save a few $$ :)

Other deals also listed. But stay away from New Corsair Hydro Series releases!!! Too many people are posting serious problems with the new coolers.

Example...

Item: Corsair Hydro Series H100i
Title: Disaster

Pros: Looked nice when I finally got it installed

Cons: Installed it last night after getting off of work. Looked great and seemed to be operating flawlessly. Woke up this morning and tried to wake my computer from sleep mode. It had power but for some reason my monitor wasn't detecting a video source. Opened up my case to diagnose the problem and.... yup, you guessed it.... found a nice radiant pool of green coolant all inside the case. One of the fixtures attached to the pump had popped right off.

Other Thoughts: Pretty sure I lost both 7850 video cards in my system. Not sure about the processor or any of my other components yet ( good thing I have a backup computer). Will have to wait till I get back from work tonight to assess the full extent of the damage. If you intended to install this unit into your rig, please double check the fixtures to make sure they're secure (don't look as nearly as secure as the old H100 fixtures, which I own). I would really hate to see this happen to anyone else. One of the perils of water cooling I suppose. Lesson learned ...the hard way.

One word of warning for the non-pro versions, TLC NAND is used. TLC has a much lower life expectancy then MLC NAND. Some say as little as 4 years (here (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/computers/ocz-to-slash-ssd-drive-prices-by-30-percent-in-2012-thanks-to-tlc-nand-flash-memory/6981) - 3rd paragraph)

I never bought anything from the Internet (I am a very ancient guy) but that seems very (very very) cheap. I was not able to find if they can send me that kit (to Portugal) or maybe I will have to pay extra costs of transport as a plus. Oh well ...

Thanks Crazybob's Son. I will see about that.

And that's actually a good AMD X6 CPU, because it is only 95W - which is what most of their quad cores run. So less electricity costs than the bigger X6 CPUs even though it has the same amount of cache, and you should be able to O/C it a bit as well - easily as fast as a stock 1100T, maybe more depending on how good your mobo is. ;)

8GB free RAM with purchase of these motherboards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&Depa=0&Description=PPSSMBPROMO418

Just to be sure, i did some checking and confirmed the RAM is 2 4GB modules, not 4 2GB modules which would fill up all your slots. This way you still have room to expand or to use the RAM you already have in addition to these. Also the speed on this free RAM is 1600MHz. Pretty decent :)

Brands of motherboards include BioStar, MSI, Gigabyte, Asus and ASRock. Price range is $80 to $430. Value of the free RAM alone is $61.

Well... good to see you can start to get close to or under MSRP again, even with a few hoops, but still not quite enough to bite. Keep posting though and I'll find the right deal someday Toto! Some day. I've been trying to wait to lay hands on a card with good DP precision so I can effectively run apps like MWay. My guess is I should keep waiting for a 7970GE with its 1/4 DP cut versus the 290 with its 1/8, if I can ever find a not-melted used one at a good price again.

Or, you know, buy Tank's Titan...

Samsung EVO SSDs, lowest prices i've ever seen. Newegg also has them for similar prices: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3W1726/ref=pe_172030_114023150_em_1p_0_ti

All capacities from 120GB to 1TB are discounted. The 250GB is now $20 cheaper than what i paid for mine during a black friday special, which was a good deal even then :/

As i've mentioned before, writing 10GB/day everyday won't kill these drives for 13.7 years. I have no problem with that. As a matter of fact, i just checked and i've only written 1.81TB to the drive since installing it the first week of december. It is the main drive on my 3770K Marshal with the 4 GPUs. My actual speeds with the 250GB version are 552MB/s read, 535MB/s write. So much for those other brands whose speeds drop off after a few weeks of use. 120GB version will be a bit slower. 500GB and up will be about equal.

True but reading from any NAND also chips away at it life. And all versions of Windows are notorious for the exorbitant number of reads and writes performed even for mundane background tasks. Atm, I cannot give you any I/O stats from my SSD, as my desktop is out of action, but I now it's a lot higher then yours.... :P

Speeds higher how? Only way to get any faster throughput than that is to get more than one and put them in RAID or get a PCIe SSD. Those speeds pretty much cap SATA 3 bandwidth.

No no no.... not speed. I was referring to usage as in reads and writes, to and from. I do a ton of streaming, photo editing, etc... And it all gets dumped on the SSD. Last month we almost hit Comcast's data cap of 250GB. And that's not too much higher then our average. Most of that activity is my doing. Yes I know my mini garden of crunchers accounts for some of that, but it's a relatively small percentage. Oh and btw, thankfully Comcast has had the data cap on my Uncle's account suspended for quite some time. #:-s

F$...Please don't piss on my party...it's my first ssd. =))=))=))

Lol well like F$, i was against the TLC NAND they use in these SSDs as well. Just seemed like a really bad idea. But then a read up alot on it, waited til a bunch of people had owned them for awhile, and finally realized they're not that bad at all. Sure the longevity is lower (13.7 years on the EVO vs. 70.2 years on the Pro series which uses MLC), but i didn't care about this for 2 reasons: 1) SATA 3 is being replaced with something faster anyway, therefore new SSDs will be even faster and make all current SSDs obsolete, regardless of what kind of NAND they use. 2) 13.7 years is still far longer than the expected life of any hard drive and i've done just fine with those for the past 33 years since i got my first computer.

And really i wasn't much of a fan of MLC NAND when it came out either, since it had a much lower longevity than SLC. But i was won over on that too :p

In terms of credits/watt you can't beat the 750 Ti. Anyone have typical credits/day for the GTX 570? Expect 300k/day in Collatz/DiRT, 200k/day GPUGrid, or about 150k/day Primegrid from the 750 Ti at very low power use.

04-17-14, 10:29 AM
My dual 570 system will do between 485k - 500k/day/card @ considerable higher power usage. This summer I'm really thinking about cleaning up the 570s and selling them and replacing them with something that draws a lot less power...the 750ti is in the running as a replacement.

Both items are sold by First by ASIA, out of Hong Kong, and having visited a couple times I know there are individuals that know the English language better then I there. Still it was worth a chuckle to read through the descriptions.

I've moved back to spinning disks for my dedicated crunchers. I frequently have several VMs, and I want to be able to allocate 120gb each*. And 512gb SSDs are just too expensive still.

*A couple projects in the past have set their minimum requirements to something stupid like 100gb of free space, and without it you can't get tasks.

FourOh
10-21-14, 03:07 PM
The new GTX 970 and GTX 980 have higher performance per watt, but if you factor in FLOPS/Watt/$$ this particular 750 Ti is a better (initial) deal by 2.5x to 3.5x.

I already have 2 750 Tis and I'm trying to add a 7970 to my fleet, but this may be too good to pass up!

conf

If you have enough place you may be right, but I have already 14 GPUs ( 11 running, 3 are in repair ) and my only place left would
be outside the cases with a PCIe-Expander (already ordered 2 of them) leaving the boxes open all the time.
I would look for a 290 instead of the 7970, they are so cheap now since the Nvidia 900 series came out.
Even a 290x costs 299,- Euro today. ( GTX970 355,- in Europe )

Newegg is extending a military discount to active and veteran service members, 10% off up to $20. They use a verification service which asks for your DOB, separation date, and an uploaded document for verification. I sent a pdf of my Basic Individual Record which doesn't show my SSN and was verified in about 15 minutes.

Far too many deals to mention, but there's a couple SSDs i wanted to note after spending the time to dig for them:

1) Super Talent 256GB $87.29 + free shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JXFM4S4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (i ordered 2 of these)
Edit: This drive may not fit in a notebook/laptop since it's 9.5mm thick. This same drive is available at Newegg for $183.80 + $11.50 shipping

2) SanDisk 240GB SSD $84.99 + free shipping http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-2-5-Inch-Height-SDSSDHII-240G-G25/dp/B00M8ABEIM/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0073EDYZWM5MENQC1386

Nice!

Yep, it looks like Black Friday has come early this year. That is if you live near a MicroCenter store. [In-Store Only Deal] Intel Core i7-4790K $249.99 +tax (Link (http://www.microcenter.com/product/434176/Core_i7-4790K_40GHz_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor))

Yesterday that CPU was $279.99...

I do but there is just no way. Grrrrrrr! Sucks that the MicroCenter is about 15 minutes away and I have to let this slide for another month. Christmas will be in Jan for me....and Feb....and March.

Note: Newegg is offering an additional $30 savings when you spend $150 or more with Promo code CMPAYPAL30. You must pay with Paypal to get this discount. In theory this means you could purchase 2 of those SSDs for $159.98 and only pay $129.98 = $64.99 each.

RANT ALERT: Newegg had some Mobile-only deals over the last week; I used one to buy an i7-4790k & motherboard. HOWEVER for some damn reason one cannot select "Will Call" from the mobile app. A long chat with customer service and I could not convince them to extend the mobile discount to a web promo code... but alas I am a sucker for a deal so I figured "what the heck" Newegg is shipping the items from IN MY CITY so it shouldn't take but a couple days.

Oh, but then Newegg does the unthinkable... using FedEx SmartPost to ship an item IN TOWN. So Monday morning Newegg ships the package via FedEx from Memphis. Tuesday morning the package is at a ground hub in North Mississippi. Wednesday morning the package is sent to the USPS back in Memphis. Now USPS indicates the package is at the post office in my zip code, but don't expect delivery til Friday. ~X(

Normally I wouldn't really care because I'd be doing my build on a weekend, but I need to have this thing up and running, programs installed and files restored by Saturday afternoon when my wife gets home from a trip. I'm (secretly) upgrading her home office PC b-)

Rant complete (for now)

I ordered 2 different packages of cables from the Egg at the same time. They shipped both via Dumbpost on the same day. 1 got here on Friday. The other didn't get here until today. If you need anything fast you can't use their Newegg free shipping.

On the other hand I got a Crucial 240gb SSD on the 6th of this month and it failed. I sent it bac to the Egg and they are sending a new one via next day air so I should have it tomorrow.

I'm not so sure I'd consider that a better situation than just taking a while to get to ya... Less than a month and you killed an SSD? Sheesh! :)

(Although, it's really impressive if you got it on the 6th of this month and it failed already. I'm still waiting to see that day myself...) :D

OK, I misspoke as usual. My foot is in my mouth again. I got it on the 6th of Nov. but I have the new one coming today thanks to the Egg. I hope this one lasts longer. Crucial said it was a trimming problem and I should power it up but not connect it to a SATA and let it just run for at least 24 hours. It is an MX 500 and the cure didn't work.

EVGA 750 Ti FTW Newegg 109.99 after MIR. This is one of the highest clocked 750 Tis you can get:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487028

Note: This is also one of the 750 Ti cards that uses a 6-pin PCI-e power cable. Good or bad, depending on your setup. Think I might pick one of these up myself

And the EVGA 750 Ti Superclocked 99.99 after MIR. Great card with no PCI-e power cable required.

Hmmm, somehow I missed this post. Sorry.

Anyhoot I strongly recommend that you disable Windows Disk Defragmenter on any system using an SSD.
To disable the service, right-click My Computer and select Manage. In the new window's left column select "Services and Applications". Then in the center column, double-click "Services". Now search for Disk Defragmenter, right-click it and select "Properties". If the service is running press the Stop button to shut it down. Then click the drop down menu for Startup type and select disabled. Finally press the OK button. That's it.

And while the services window is still open, I'd suggest disabling the following services:
*Windows Firewall (If you are running a 3rd party software firewall)
*Windows Error Reporting Service (Totally useless service)

If you're not sending/receiving faxes with your computer because it's not 1995 anymore, you can disable that too :p
