I forgot how I found Marc Bevand's (a.k.a. mrb) Zorinaq blog (http://blog.zorinaq.com/) but he is a programmer that wrote a MD5 brute force program dubbed Whitepixel. Version 2 of this piece or art can achieve a rate of 33.1 billion password/sec on Linux with (4x) HD 5970s!!!!!!!!!
In his original Whitepixel post, (http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=42) Mr. Bevand goes into great detail about the hardware used, which makes for great reference material for anyone interested in a Linux GPU cruncher.
