Like qcn, it will require purchasing new hardware.

Eventually...

...in the mean time, it doesn't hurt to create an account while it's open.

They just added a windows app today.

And, as an NCI project, it doesn't hurt to let it be active. Get you a point or two while the project gets ready for selling the detectors.

Well, I was (am) in the Top 10. I'm thinking a Windows app will bring me back down to earth.

Weird. Are we supposed to get points if you don't have a detector? Only 1 of my tasks has given me points. The rest gave zero. A glitch?

From a brief glance of all my computers, it appears that the free ride ended at 5:00 UTC.

Yup. Looks like the last one I got any credit for was turned in at Jul 4 5:28:45 UTC.

They are taking pre-orders for the sensors now, just got my order in :)

Hoping for mid september, but it depends on if they can get enough pre-orders to buy the bulk order to get them at a decent price.

It's 40Euro including shipping to the US. You have to do the order via their 'Donation' page. I did 50Euro, so a little extra to help out. Seems like an interesting project to me :)

I don't see on the donation page where it says my money will go towards the sensor and not just a pure donation. Just wondering.

I didn't either, so I did it and just PM'd the project admin with the details. Got a response pretty quickly.

See the thread here (http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=17)

Looks like only a few more orders in this run available so jump in quick if you want one !

Cool! I just sent the money and a small donation as well.

Does this run like WUProp in the back ground?

Edit: N/M I added it and I am running. Love these projects, especially being a small time cruncher or Seti.USA core member.

Yo Denim, unfortunately I do not think the project will grant credit for the wu's without the sensor. Cost for the sensor is approx. $59.00 US.

It does, but you aren't going to get any credit unless you have the sensor, much like Quake Catcher Network.

They gave out some credit a month or so ago by accident.

Crap, crap. I don't have the extra loot for this now. :(

Too bad they don't post the schematics for the sensors. I bet we could build them ourselves for less than $60 each.

Isn't this part of it? - http://radioactiveathome.org/images/prototyp8.png

There is a bunch of diagrams and such from the main site, though I don't think they've released the firmware, I'm sure they would if asked..

Yep, that be it. On their forum they also talk about winding your own transformer since it does not exist on the market. I was looking on eBay for the Geiger tube and they don't seem to come cheap. In the long run it is probably less costly to buy their kit then to scratch your own.

BTW: Your link had double url tags so it didn't work http://radioactiveathome.org/images/prototyp8.png

So it is pointless for me to crunch for this project if I don't have the piece of equipment?

Yes unfortunately. Just like quakecatcher, no auxiliary hardware no credits. :(

Detectors to ship soon!

Sorry about delay but during the tests in Prypiat our fellow found a bug in firmware which caused in freezing the value at the LCD or even show values under zero. Now when this bug is fixed and sensors passed all the tests I can send it to you.
Everybody who ordered the sensor should have the device before the end of October.

Does anyone know if kruncher Keith is still planning on getting a bulk order for the U.S. to help us save on shipping? I read that on the radioactive forum. I just sent him a pm, but wondering if anyone's heard about that.

Bok

I believe so, but with the first batch of detectors delayed somewhat it might not be for while yet (They've said end of October to ship out the first 50).

Got this from kruncher keith today. (he's the one doing the bulk order)

"No, the project has not accepted orders yet for the second batch which these will be from. They are only just sending out the first batch, I don't even have mine (single one) yet.

You are #14

If you have a team with a message board, post on there to try to attract some more USA residents.

See message board for estiamted cost. I will notify you again by PM when it is time to send money.

I can accept a check in the mail or payment by PayPal but it has to be with PayPal funds (no transfer from credit card) so if you need to, you might want to think about transfering the money to your paypal account ahead of time."
