So Compusa/Tigerdirect has a barebones kit using this APU (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=685803&CatId=7239) (yes that is correct, not a typo). Now with the GPU being built into with the CPU does anyone know if BOINC will support this and allow you to crunch on both the CPU and GPU?

I ask because they have a kit for $350 (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=808302&CatId=332) and a kit for $400 (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=808304&CatId=332) (both after MIR). This would give the opportunity to run 3 GPU's even though one is a 6550 (I'm sure it can still run on collatz).

Oh wow 400 streaming cores! Who is going to try these new desktop processors out! *-:)

The processor on these chips also has the benefit of AMD's new 32nm die and extra Floating Point units to aid in BOINC number crunching. :-B

Eagerly waiting the arrival of Interlagos server cores which will have 16 processors and the same 32nm die!

Mt HTPC has the old Fusion board inside. That means X2 1.6Ghz core with a Ati 6310 videocard. In one weeks time I have a vacation coming up, I could give it a whirl if you like??

I have just received a new computer request for one of these processors.

Check should be coming on Monday.

I am excited to build and benchmark this system for the SETI.USA team!:)

Can't wait to read the review. :D

That is cool - would love to see what something like this could do...

I will also be getting two PCIe ATI cards to put in the system. Will be most interested to see whether BOINC recognizes both cards and the cpu stream cores.

Intel has that enabled by design. Intel actually recognized the need to address the possibility of a Sandy Bridge owner wanting to use their APU alongside any installed GPUs. Which is a nice change of pace for an American Corporation. :P

Still waiting, parts came in but coworker left for vacation this week.

Oh the suspense is killing me!:p

Anyone else have luck with these new A8's?

Been debating on whether to pull the trigger on one of these. Your suspense is killing me too!:)

Small update... A8 cpu + motherboard are at my desk but we forgot to order a case.

Ordered a Thermaltake Chaser MK-I (VN300M1W2N) Black SECC ATX Full Tower Computer Case today for it.

That does look nice! :D

So, anyone know if BOINC will "see" these "GPUs" built in to the CPU cores yet?

Uhh.. I am so looking forward to this!

I think AMD has a golden age coming again...From what I can read Intelīs Ivy Bridge doesenīt looks like itīs gonna be all that.

Remember, each Bulldozer chip is marketed as having eight cores, which is true only for the Integer pipelines, as their heavy-lifting parts (FPU, SSE and AVX) are shared between each core inside a module.

Fail. Just Fail.

The next question to me would be....are there any projects that use pretty much solely "integer" related processes as compared to FPU processes? If so, they would run much faster on the new Bulldozer CPUs, right?

Just got all this together and am now testing the Biostar TA75M+ with AMD A8 3850 processor. Just using Windows XP Pro x86 to get some good comparisons to Windows 7 Professional 64bit later. Will also be running some USB 3.0 benchies on this motherboard to see how it compares to a normal plug-in PCI-e USB 3.0 card.

What impressed me so far was the speed at which Windows XP Pro x86 installed from a relatively slow Targus USB 2.0 external DVD-ROM drive. The system completed the install in half the time it took my AMD 965 x4 took. This leads me to believe I will get some promising results when compared to the benchmarks in my other processor reviews.

Will this quad core beat my two AMD 965 cpu's?

How will the 400 stream processors work with BOINC?

Time will tell! Check my PrimeGrid account to get the early results. Expect to be up in 24 hours.

Here are early photos. Notice 1866Mhz memory? :)

Collatz is all integer math. The only floating point calculation is to show the percent complete.

Wow, so Collatz could be the CPU project of choice for Bulldozer owners which would be really good news for you Slicker. :-bd

Sweet! Thanks for that info. I think it's things like this that could be the difference between almost 2x as many points per day in the future, as different hardware gets more specialized.

I don't know if you people have seen this yet....

AMD Bulldozer Overclocking Event (link (http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reports/amd_bulldozer_conference))

The really interesting part of the article is where they achieve a LH OC of 8.429 Ghz at a temperature of -225C! (-373F). Check it out in the 2nd half of page 2 of the article.

YES!

I have seen this and am very excited about getting my hands on the Bulldozer / Interlagos Socket G34 processor with 16 cores!

Seems like it will be finally released in Oct. 2011, a timely birthday present for me!
