I have Windows XP Pro 32bit installed on a new AMD A8 3850 processor which features 400 ATI streaming cores.

The problem is that I get this error...
http://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=287890925

Should I just try to reinstall/install Open CL?

Thanks for your help!

Already had Catalyst installed but not the 32bit SDK.

Put that in over Remote Desktop and rebooted.

Just worried that it will not work since remote desktop in Win XP will not show display properties for ATI Catalyst.

Activated ATI card nonetheless, hoping for some results.

Does anyone know how to detect if Open CL is working?

Maybe one of the following links will help.

Uninstalled all ATI Catalyst drivers and then installed them all again in Windows XP Pro x86, still cannot get OpenCL to work on the Biostar TA75M+.

The APU (onboard video) is rather fast and GPU Caps Viewer can get 30FPS at 600x600 in all the little benchmarks.

I'll just stop struggling with Windows XP on this board and move to Windows 7 Pro x64.

Hmmm...just a thought, did you try a more ATI type project like MW or Collatz? Just curious because they used to be programmed somewhat different in how they used the GPUs and drivers, etc.

Yeah, even though this thread is not getting much of a response... I still think it could help future members of SETI.USA, so I proceed with this attempt.

I did not have windows xp SP3 installed because the computer had not been fully updated yet.

I will install all the available updates and see if this fixes the problem.

Oh and I do get a kernel function missing error when trying to run OpenCPL demos from GPU Caps Viewer. Maybe SP3 has that needed function?

OpenCPL works!

Testing PrimeGrid soon.

IF YOU GET THE ERROR I NOTED ABOVE WHILE RUNNING GPU CAPS THEN YOU NEED WIN XP SP3!

Sweet! Let us know how it goes. Will be interesting to see how it does on the "newer" OpenCL styel project like PG, which if my info is right, is just a ported version of their CUDA app; VS the more traditional ATI programmed projects like MW or Collatz. Congrats on tracking down the fix! ;)

This needs to be said but no affront to you....

ALL of my IT friends refer to XP as eXtra Problems

Hahaha. Only one is a Linux Guru. The rest are Windows only. They sub-contract with the Chicago Public School system. At least they where the last we spoke, its been awhile.....

So how is this APU working out for you? I see CompUSA is running another special on these and might take the plunge. Are you able to utilize both the onboard and graphics card at the same time?

First, the processors are just AMD Phenom II.

Second, the APU does work with PrimeGrid's Open CL ATI project, yet it is not blazing fast. I saw a 25% jump in performance by overclocking the memory from 1333Mhz to 1866Mhz. Hence, this new APU is starving for memory bandwidth.

Conclusion, the AMD A8-3850 would make a great media center computer but do not depend on it to return impressive BOINC results.

Later.. much later this year or even next year... AMD is expected to release a better APU. When? AMD is not saying anything.

Thanks for the feedback. Will hold off on these for now.
