I have have run PPS-Sieve enough to make over 2 million credits. So, this morning I cleared my queue of waiting DiRT WUs and started to run the PPS-Sieve challenge [pre-challenge actually] WU and it gives me over 700 hours as an estimated runtime. Also it is running high priority so the DiRT WUs needing about a half hour to finish will not get any CPU time.

So does this far out there 20-30 day estimates should not be shown. Why are they generated with such an estimate. Someone might see them and decide that it is not worth their CPU time to dedicated that many hours to a project. 8-10 day PG-SoB LLR is bad enough, but 20-30 day estimates for something that takes a few hours, is just plain weird.

I am going to dedicate my quad to the PG challenge, then I will go back to doing some DiRT WUs.

PG's site seemed to crash just before the start of the Challenge. The issuing of WUs was a little slow, but their page that has the count-down clock crashed/timed out a few minutes before the challenge started.

Actually the 835 Hour estimate for the WUs seems laughable though.

All 5 PC are up and running.... for how long is up to the hurricane and if we lose power. If power is lost I will upload whatever I can and shutdown and hope power comes on before the race is over. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Have you looked how long these WUs will run? I just did the math. I am at 8% done after 2 hours. That makes it 25 hours +/- for the WUs. I do not remember PPS-Sieve taking that long when I ran them for the 2 million credits worth from that PG project.

How long will it be before the weather comes to call on your town? It way hit PA/NJ area on Sunday morning, I am on the border of NY and PA near the center of it, so if I get any from it, it will be that day.

You may be happy to know as the storm pulls in dry air from land it has weaken down to a Cat 2 and expecting to be a Cat 1 by the time it hits land tomorrow morning around 6AM. It may be that by the time it reaches you it could be down to a weak cat 1 or even a TS!

I am currently having trouble uploading and downloading WU's. My PC's are doing WU's in 15 to 30 mins.

What are you running? GPUs?

My quad AMD Phenom 9650 @ 2.3GHz is at about 25% completed for its first set of WU's. I doubt that I will complete more than 2 sets [8 WU's total] during this challenge. This project is what I ran to get PG to almost 3M credits, and this sub-project has over 2M credits by itself. I do not remember them taking this long to do them, by a long shot.

As for PG's servers, it seems to be up and running. Or at least the PG site thinks so and the "http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=boinc_status" thinks so.

Something is weird here !!!!!

PG's site has the countdown listed at 1 day and 9 minutes, while I started the PG WU within the first few minutes of the challenge and it shows elapsed time as 21 hours and 37 minutes.

How can 24 hours pass, with all but these WUs suspended in the queue, and the elapsed time being under 22 hours? The WU's are running "High Priority" in the queue, with FreeHAL, and WUProp running plus DiRT WUs "suspended" till the PG challenge is over.

The math makes it about 23 hours of run time needed to complete the WUs, and I thought I would have 2 sets of 4 WUs done by the end of the challenge. Now it looks like I will be short by a few hours with the second set.

The real concern it why the WUs have had elapsed time several hours less than their actual time being run on my computer's clock, and PG's countdown clock????

Any ideas?

Now, I have not been able to get the PG WUs to upload.

I am at ready to report and I have "updated" PG several times, but it will not upload the finished challenge WUs.

I have 2 showing "ready to report" and 2 still running with an hour or so to go. I will most likely get these credited for the challenge, but maybe with the hurricane/tropical storm disrupting power and such PG will extend the time it will take finished WUs for this challenge.

I wonder how many credits we lost due to power outages from the Hurricane/Tropical Storm?

I heard that the figure could be in the millions of people that were out of power over the weekend after the storm went through their area. I think I saw some team members say something about hoping that their power will not go out, since it seemed they were in the path of the storm. How many of our team is on the East Coast along the path of the storm?

WOO is Woodall Prime Search LLR i think

60 hours "average"? That would be more like 70-90 hours for most of us for each WU.
3-5 days per WU is not something that I would want to do solo. Bad enough got the last one that that claim 3.5 hours when it take over 20 hours CPU on my semi-fast machine. That average must have been all that GPU time averaged in.

At lease the next one is CPU only, for all of us that have only CPU crunching.

How many of our team is on the East Coast along the path of the storm?I probably shouldn't say anything because I don't really know for sure but I suspect our lower than usual finish was more the result of a deliberate action as in a protest of PG dropping credits awarded. Of course our 18th place finish severely impacts our previous 2nd place position in the 2011 PG Series Challenge. Question is are we going to keep the protest up? Help someone (Ukraine) challenge SIC? Help another US team (Navy)? Or take advantage of the situation (and key teams involved) to do something special for SUSA?

p.s. I was fortunate in my power didn't go out at all.

The earthquake and the hurricane did a number on my computers here in Arkansas. I didn't manage to return a single result for the challenge.

The earthquake and the hurricane did a number on my computers here in Arkansas. I didn't manage to return a single result for the challenge.

It did not help that PG upped the needed time for the PPS Sieve to almost a day on my system, when it took only a few hours before. I have over 2 million credits for that sub-project, but now the time needed per WU is not work the credit returns. I use to get 10K to 18K daily running 4 cores with PPS Sieve, several WUs per core a day. It changed in August for me. Now if I run PPS Sieve, it takes a day or more per WU and it seems to give me less per WU as well.

Yes, the power outage, and other stuff, caused a lot of US East Coast computers not to have any credits. But, for my semi-fast system, I did only 4 WU during the time. The other 4 finished several hours after the deadline. PG still has these very high run times for the WUs for PPS Sieve. Hopefully, it will go back down to normal. Actually, I think they are now meant to be run on GPUs instead of CPUs.

I did not hear this before. When did that happen, what sub-projects, and to who?

I think this might be a bit of water under the bridge and there might have been another thread around the same time but I think this touched upon the issue.
