View Full Version : What do you guys think about the Corsair H100 Water cooler?
Some good news for the RAC department - I am finally getting on top of things and moving on with the rig rebuilds. We're upgrading Kat to an AMD X6 CPU tonight, so hopefully she will be on soon! She keeps talking about it now the last week, so I figure I better be a good dad and do that right thing. :D So...new HDD, new CPU...
She can have my old heat sink / fan cooler, so...that means it's upgrade time for Dad. ;)
What do you all think of this one? (http://www.corsair.com/cpu-cooling-kits/hydro-series-water-cooling-cpu-cooler/hydro-series-h100-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler.html) Is it too much overkill or "just right"? :D Fry's has it on sale for $89.99 today... I am soooo tempted....=P~

Hey, errrrrrr.....
What the HELL are you waiting for???????
Man, if like you don't get it like right now I'll totally disown you! :))
That's the lowest price on the net at the moment.

That thing looks vicious! I've never used any water cooling before but I have this air cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106150
It's on sale on newegg right now and keeps my i5 which is oced to 3.8ghz under 50 degrees C running 24/7.
But I say go for it, it'll keep your cpu nice and frosty and you can tell people your computer is run under water haha.
@F$ - haha! Man, I've still got a lot of patients to see this afternoon. Hopefully they're not sold out by the time I can get there tonight.
@Shralp - that does look like a good air cooler. I've always wanted to try water cooling, though...so tempted. ;) I think it's more of...do I get a smaller one for like $65 (Corsair H60, CoolIT ECO, or Antec H2O 620), or do I go all the way...and get the big boy Corsair H100? :D:cool:
So I guess the question I should ask is, do you guys think the hog w/ the 240mm radiator is worth the extra $25 over the smaller water coolers?

I've always wanted to try water as well. And I'd say take the plunge with the bigger one, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed.

+1
Think of it as extra insurance for prolonging the life of your CPU.

Im using the H70 on a 2nd pc of mine. with 2 slipstreams Push/pull config. Keeps my Phenom X4 around 40C max load depending on room temp. the H100 is well, better of course, you will not be dis-appointed if you go for it..
OK, I am finally finished for the day. I will be off to Fry's in a half hour or so to see what they've got left. :) Wish me luck!$-)

I have to agree with everyone here, you will have plenty of room to push the overclocking that's for sure. I bought the COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 on sale for $19.99 and the highest I can push my 2600k is 4.4. It all comes down to how far you want to push the OC. With that beast you can push it hard and keep it cool.
Not sure what the budget is but I would spend all you can on a high end GPUS. GTX 570 ($350.00) or 2 of them for $700.00 Or the AMD 6970 $329.00 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150517. I believe the 6970 is the upgrade of the 5870 line which was the best crunching card for ATI save for the monster 5970.
There are guys much better at this than I like, F$, Bryan, ETC so lets see what they think. Most bang for the buck. =P~ Glad to see you rebuilding the fleet. >:/

I have the H100.
It works great for my i7 2600k, keeping the temps for all cores in the mid 40's while crunching. My case is the HAF-X and it fits inside the case at the top pointing upward. I have the 2 smaller fans pushing air through it upwards and the 2 larger case roof fans pulling out. The H100 has 3 fan settings.
I'd say get it!

Good lad. And don't forget the pics!!!! :P
Alright...they still had a couple, so I grabbed one. This is nuts. I have to say I feel almost guilty or something for some reason - I mean, spending $90 on a cooler when a $25 air cooler like Mike's would have done the job.:o:D Oh well. I've always wanted to try water cooling so I figure here is my chance to get a 240mm radiator and all.
@Mike - I was all set to grin and bear it, and pony up for one of the 560Ti or 570, but then a good friend offered me an unbelievable deal on two GTX 460s, so I just had to jump on them. I looked up all the GFLOPs on the Wiki comparison, and it looks like two GTX 460s beat anything I would be able to afford in the 500 series (which would be 560Ti or 570) right now. I figure what the heck - I can always use them now and then save up for dual GPU cards next year, right? :D
So when it's all done, say in a week or so...or whenever I get the ATI GPU back from Gigabyte, the DrPop rig should be rocking:
ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 mobo
AMD PhenomII X6 1100T O/Ced as high as I can get it
Corsair H100 H20 cooling
8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
640GB WD Caviar Black OS Drive
Two 500GB Seagate Barracudas in RAID1 for my data
Three GPUs - HD 5870 & Two GTX 460's
1KW BFG PSU
:D
How does that sound for one rig? I promised the wife I would keep it to one rig for me and one for Kat at least until the beginning of next year. :D

I could never promise things like that as I could not keep my promise. Than again you have less than two months to wait.:D

Awesome! With that water cooler I'd imagine you'll be able to push that chip pretty hard. And nice score on the two 46o's! I can't wait to hear how the new rig works.
It would be really nice if the gtx 500 series has a price drop soon. I really want another 570 but man are they spendy...
