Hi,

I'm Radioactive@Home team member.

Regards for one of the best team on the world :)

Welcome! We have several members who are anxious to join your project. Hopefully we will work with KK to get an order placed for sensors soon.

I just returned my first task, and added the location for that host. Hopefully it will show up on the map soon!

Hello Sir, and thank you for the kind compliment to our team! We are just waking up again after a long time, so hopefully there will be more greatness to come. ;)

So over in Poland, what projects are the real favorites? Also, how is the hardware availability, for example on the latest GPUs and such? Never had the chance to visit Europe yet, but someday we'd love to go. My wife is at least 50% Norwegian, so you can imagine where we will have to travel someday and meet her cousins. Her mom said she has a cousin that could almost be a twin, they look so much alike! ;)

Well, take care and thanks for stopping by this side of the Pond. Merry Christmas to you if I don't get to talk with you before then!

Nice to see you in here Krysztof. I see you can post OK. Perhaps the misunderstanding is from the fact that you are not allowed to see or post in some of the Forums as they are for Team members Only. All the best from to you and yours from Australia.

Uh - hey Z , are those radiation levels good? Is this some kind of geiger counter like system? Seems kind of cool, what do we need to get a bunch of us on this man's project?

Holy cow vacation is awesome! I just checked out radioactive@home and I'd like to get a sensor also. In one of my many past careers I was a "Nuke" in the US Navy so I have a lot of interest in this project.

zombie I had wondered about the graphic on your posts, now it all makes sense. Very cool.

So are there plans for the detectors out there somewhere? I bet there are more than a few people on the boards with the know how to put one together.

PM KK at the project, and let him know you want to order. He is consolidating the USA orders to save on international shipping.

Yes there are. They have posted a How-To with a parts list on their forum. If I can find it again I'll post it here.

Edit: The schematic diagram is here (link (http://radioactiveathome.org/images/Schemat.png)). I cannot find a direct link for the controller firmware so you would probably have to contact their software developer, a Mr. Michał Stanisław Wójcik using the websites contact form (Link (http://radioactiveathome.org/en/contacts/83-radioactvehome-admins/85-software/14-michal-wojcik))

2nd Edit: Found the Firmware (Link (http://radioactiveathome.org/files/detector-firmware.zip)).

Thanks, I sent a message to Keith. I have a friend that could help me put one together from the schematic but it would take me longer to get the parts and put one together than just getting one from the source.

I got a headache just looking at the schematic, dang. :-@

Here are the instructions (link) (http://radioactiveathome.org/en/hardware/102-radioacticehome-detector-assembly-manual), supposedly you could be electrocuted if you don't do it right... I just got my sensor, so I need to figure out how to do this right.

!! WARNING !!
When device is connected to the USB on the right side of the board - from items marked as R22, R23 to the right there is a voltage ~ 400VDC which may be hazardous to your health and even life!
Do not touch the right half of the board during operation!

Since the voltage converter controller is inserted into its socket and the USB connection is plugged in, you take a full responsibility for possible electric shock and/or other injury.

Keep away from small children and pets!

To run the sensor you need:
- a box into which you put the sensor and the GM tube
- two of about 7-10 cm insulated wires with insulated alligator clips
- screwdriver
- USB cable A <-> B (like to the printer/scanner)

For your safety the sensor is supplied with the voltage converter taken out from its socket.
To run the sensor, you must unscrew the display and take it out. Under the display in a black sponge a controller of the voltage converter is placed. It should be put down in the socket on the right side in such a position, that a small dot (circular depression) located on the chassis of controller found on the right side, bottom (with the letters IC3). Then mount the display back.

Remove the black sponge from goldpin connector.

The next step is to connect the GM tube which is a part of our radiation detection. Two wires (preferably in different colors or with alligator clips in different colors to distinguish them) must be connected to the blue screw connector marked CON3 (and the words of "GM-Tube"). The end of the tube marked '(+)' to be connected to the cable going to the ends also the marked '+', by analogy with the tip of the tube without any indication to the second cable.

Sensor should be placed in the current non-conductive, preferably a transparent box (so you can see the display) so that the GM tube does not touch the board, and the whole does not move freely inside the box.

Connect the USB cable and have in your mind about not touching the right side of the device!

Yes, I am definitely going to mount mine in some type of plastic enclosure.

When the instructions start off with 'WARNING', no need to read any further.

No detectors for Portugal. My radioactive cats are going to miss that detector.

Good ones Duke, you must be up early, nearly 10 PM in Arizona, plus or minus 7 hours puts you 'about' 5 a.m.
