View Full Version : Win 7 help needed
OK. All you old people know how this can happen. The grandkids were over and playing on the computer. Now I can no longer paste and copy. It seems like copy works but the paste function does not work either with the right mouse button nor with ctr+v. It works in word XP since I reset to show paste but nowhere else.
I have tried downloading the MS mouse program as well as replacing the drivers for my mouse and changing the mouse. HELP! I need copy and paste or I can't put up any more jokes.

First thing to try is a system restore. Just make sure the restore date is prior to the family visit.
That a look at these...

Not to be an arse but I would strongly suggest that for future peace of mind, give your computer challenged family members their own user accounts to log into. [-O< [-O< [-O< Or better yet create virtual machines (Link (https://www.virtualbox.org/)) for them. Then if they fubar something just delete the vm and create another.

I just like to confirm that what I do is similar to F$. I make sure that my Grand Kids or in fact my kids or Guests are only have Guest privileges to log in and I am the only one that can control the machine. In the event that something goes wrong after their visit, I do the following:
1: Go to Start>Accessories>System Restore and follow the prompts to restore to the date prior to their visit.
2. If the above does not work, I reinsert the system disk and allow a Restore as a kind of last resort for this one takes longer but it will still retain your database.
I found that any other solution will only stuff up the system more and will take longer to rectify.

Guest schmest! No one ever uses my primary computer. At best they get to use the old AMD 4000. The core 2, quads, and better are all off limits!
External hard drive and Mozy make sure I have backups ...just in case.
I solved the problem of the kids getting on the confuser by just installing a password. Done and now they don't get on it. So far nothing has fixed the copy and paste. Reload drivers, Did the hints in the forum. Did a restore all the way back to 1 week before they came and nothing works. I am going to try a restore with the disk. Next option is to blow away the disk and start over. Might just have to trash this machine until I get it fixed. :(:(:(
EDIT: OK here's a twist. I have found a virus. Virtool Win32/Obsfuscator.ul. I went to several forums and started running virus scans in safe mode with network. Copy and paste works in safe mode.
In MS Security It has found 3 entries for viruses but they are all marked allowed and you can't change it. It seems from what I can find on forums this virus is coming from the new version of Java. I have uninstalled java and am going into the registry to delete all references to Java.
