Here's a nasty little malware infestation I've been dealing with over the last several hours. I got a warning from my firewall that "Windows Error Reporting" wanted access to the internet. I made the mistake of granting it one time access and bam! Warnings about virus' starting popping up all over the place. Fake scans, rewrote portions or the registry, didn't let me open any exe file, hijacked the browser when I tried to get more info on this nasty little bug. My fault though, I wasn't running any AV or malware protection...that's been taken care of. Did manage to finally get rid of it by logging in to my wife's user account and running AVG and Malwarebytes from her account. Corrected the file associations in the registry and I was back in business.

The warning here? Have your AV and Malware programs up to date and USE THEM. Also, think twice about granting access through your firewall. I was lucky, but it still sucked.

Yeah that one is nasty just fixed a friends machine with it... had random file names all over the place but they were easy to spot.

Huh. I use no AV at all. Ever. Never had any problem like that on any of my macs... :p

What's a virus? :-??

That's something all the porn addicts who are smart enough to not require a MAC but too dumb to use Linux get. :p
