Hello all. I was previously crunching SETI for SETI.USA but just signed up to crunch Einstein as well. How do you get your stats in you signatures? I went to free-dc but didn't see anything.

Hello there and welcome to the team forums.

http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=Your CPID goes here

If you want a different theme (background image) for your sig then add &theme=A number between 1-36.

Here is the line for my sig

http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=3ef5f71d77abb1ccaf16dfc16075fab9&theme=24&cols=2

Look at my sig. Its theme # is 24

http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=3ef5f71d77abb1ccaf16dfc16075fab9&theme=24&cols=2

but if I change it to 36 I get

http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=3ef5f71d77abb1ccaf16dfc16075fab9&theme=36&cols=2

Lastly, if you want more then one column to list the projects add &col=A # between 1-4

My sig uses &col=2

That's great. There are plenty of projects that you can crunch and even ones that use your GPU. Look through the forums and pick what interests you.

This is an almost complete list (http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?27501-Themes) of the themes.

Of course if you have a picture you'd like as a theme, let me know and I'll create a new one for you..

There are some SetiUSA specific themes too theme=997, theme=998 & theme=999 (I had to move them higher for Primegrid which randomizes the theme on each users signature in the forum and did not want team specific ones..)

And a quick note to add to Fire$torm's instructions. Cols can actually be anything.

There is also a link to your CPID tag on your cpid page over at Free-DC too - look at mine for example - http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=c843714b32e467b97d2571d1af9971f8 (http://<a href=&quot;http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=c843714b32e467b97d2571d1af9971f8&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;>http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=c843714b32e467b97d2571d1af9971f8</a>)

If you need any help finding your cpid, let us know!

Fire$torm, Bok--thanks for the help. I entered the info into the signature space but kept getting an invalid file. I know I typed it correctly because I pasted it directly into my browser and it worked. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I see you have both an nVidia and an AMD graphics card. Ever considered crunching with those? Your ATI card could get 200,000 credits per day on MooWrapper if you are interested. If you prefer space science, MilkyWay@Home is another good option. Collatz may be the best option for the nVidia 9600 GS, but it would also get at least 1K per day. If you have any question on how to get those GPUs crunching, just ask!

Hi Tant,
Glad to see you on here! Thanks for joining on more projects, we sure appreciate the help. :D

As for your sig - are you adding them as a picture? Or just trying to type in the text?

Can you point me to one of your id's on a project, Simap perhaps? Or your CPID. And I'll get the info directly for you.

p.s. did a quick search on my stats and found this (http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=aaa1902d71e0f7839e6e36e8e30b8682) - is this you?

If so, your signature would be

http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=aaa1902d71e0f7839e6e36e8e30b8682&theme=3&cols=1

I did this by putting in this code

{img}http://stats.free-dc.org/cpidtagb.php?cpid=aaa1902d71e0f7839e6e36e8e30b8682&theme=3&cols=1{/img}

changing the {} to be []

I no longer have the computer with the nVidia card. I took your advise and added MilkyWay@Home. However, my cpid is different than my other projects. Will this corrected itself when my computer connects to report results? I already hit the update button. Can you set MilkyWay to only run ATI card and not the CPU?

First off, welcome to the boards! You should be able to set the CPU and GPU usage under your account at the MW project under the project's preferences.

Just got a message from BOINC manager stating an ATI GPU supporting double precision math is required. Gheeesh, this GPU is brand new.

Unfortunately only certain quite high-end cards of each series support double precision. Try Moo! Wrapper or Collatz, it will work great and get you a ton of points compared to CPU only. ;)

I have signed on to POEM to crunch with my gpu.

OK, that's cool. Do you like crunching POEM? If you do, awesome...if you're not a big POEM cruncher, well, please don't take this the wrong way, but let's just say there are much higher rate of return projects than POEM for that GPU. ;) Which of course, doesn't mean anything if you like to crunch POEM! :o

Heck - crunching anything on a GPU is just flat out awesome.

I kept getting gpu error warning in my taskbar crunching POEM. I also couldn't get any wu's so I switched to moo. Whenever the screensaver would become active the computer would do an emergency shut off and restart. I've decided not to crunch gpu for now. Anyway, I was afraid of extra heat. I seem to burn through computers faster than other people I know.

Yeah, a lot of screen savers use tons of GPU power. If your using one looking to save energy then the best one to use is "Blank Screen" which needs zero GPU resources. And like the other screen savers it can be locked with a password.

Hi Tant, sorry - we should have mentioned to turn the screen saver off! ;) I didn't realize so
any still used them. The best thing to do is have it shut off the display after 5 mins or so. This will allow your display to go into energy saver mode, because it will shut off the signal from the GPU. Maximum energy saved!

PS - if you are worried about heat, try crunching Collatz on your GPU. Nice and low temp, and very stable. :)

Sounds like it may be more then just a screen saver issue and the sooner you address the problem the more life you can give that computer... Download a program called gpu-z http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ its very small. click on sensors and whatch your GPU Temp just wait 3 min and boinc will kick in i wouldnt recommend choosing use gpu always to force it to run in boinc cause if it crashes instanly then your computer will boot up and crash as soon as boinc fires up again and you will be stuck in a loop. Don't forget to change the screen saver to blank screen. if your hitting 80C+ you may have some dust bunnies that have found a nice spot to stay warm for the winter. I recomend everyone to open the computer case every once in a while to let the bunnies go free. Just get a can of air duster make sure to not let your fans spin like crazy while your cleaning to avoid damage to the fan and system.

update: just noticed you said it was new, Still might be the power supply overheating if the bunnies made a home there or possibly a driver version i know moo can be picky with the AMD drivers.

Glad your here with us Tant, I also recommend Collatz for any gpu crunching where your worried about heat. It is much easier on the gpu than other projects and I'm sure it will run on your gpu.

I tried collatz also and the same thing happened where the computer would do an emergency shutdown as soon as the screensaver started. I play a game that is pretty graphics intensive and the gpu works fine for that.

All good then. Keep on chugging with the cpu. We'll have fun in the upcoming challenges.

If you want to crunch with your GPU, change your screen saver "blank screen". Anything the screen saver does uses memory and processing resources that could be used for crunching. Some screen savers use a lot of memory and processing power. If the GPU runs out of memory, it could lock up the computer. If it uses too many processing resources, response will seem sluggish. If the power supply is not large enough to power the GPU (a high end GPU will use more power than the rest of the computers parts put together), the machine will shut down.

Just like people slow down as they get older, power supplies generate less power as they get older. A 500W power will drop to 450W as time goes by, so a GPU that requires a minimum 500W PSU may not work with an older 500W PSU. Then general rule for PSUs is to to make sure it won't have to ever run over 80% of its rated capacity. For GPU crunching, I'd suggest a 550W or 600W power supply at a minimum. Also, a higher wattage PSU will use less electricity at 50% load than an lower wattage PSU at 90% load. So, while it may cost more to purchase, it will probably more than pay for the difference in electricity in the long run.
