I have two boxes down. One my niece got a virus and needs a complete os install. ( I'll get to that this weekend. The other may be a PSU. I'll have some time
this weekend to get everything back up, I hope.
I completely redid Cheetah, moved it to the big tower (Thor V2 case) with the BFG 1KW PSU in preperation for an upgrade. Then yanked the SSD out of Puma to send Al for a new Hydra rig, and reinstalled the OS, all the updates and stuff. It was a loooong night - or should I say early morning? :)

For me? In the last few weeks..... absolutely nothing. Which is weird for me as tinkering is a hobby for me.

I think you're just saving it up for that mobo project I'm going to send you! :)) ;)

I ran Gentoo updates on 4 computers yesterday. I hate the ones that come with video driver updates. I used my Dell to coordinate three of them and then updated it last. It takes a while to update a Gentoo system, but it goes faster when you can share the compiling between 3 or more PC's.
Other than that, I replaced the PSU in my Dell with a better one I had lying around.

Cool. This one may have to try when I'm ready to install it on my laptop.
Lost a GTX 465 that was running in SLI mode on my I7. Went through all the troubleshooting with Evga and finally have an RMA for the card. Lifetime warranties are great! Installed a GTX 460 just to be able to crunch 2 wu's of GPU Grid at once. Hope the turn around time isn't too long.

Rebooted the half of the farm that isn't on the UPS as the power went out Friday evening and I was gone for the weekend. Thankfully, it wasn't down long enough to drain the UPS so the Collatz project kept running minus any Comcast outage that may have occurred.
took off the side panel to keep er cool for simap.
Let's see...
Found a damage psu for Cruncher1
Repinned the Molex plug - only problem I could find.
Installed the 650 Watt psu in Cruncher1
Reinstalled Win 7 Ultimate
Found and installed drivers for my AE1000 Wireless Adapter
Updated Win 7 Ultimate
Installed 560ti 448 core
Updated those drivers
Installed Afterburner
Installed TeamViewer
Installed CoreTemp
Installed Boinc 7 something .25
Fixed all the bad preferences in Boinc 7 something .25
Got it crunching again! Yeah!
All by 10:30 am...I wake up early. :D

Installed old 650W P.S.U. into fried/blown machine in preparation of new processor arriving tomorrow sometime. :D Hope it was only the processor I killed!! Then installed old video card, two SATA drives, and rerouted cables to insure good air flow in chassis for additional WU cruncher(I am hoping!).
Then replaced silver screws on next machine with black screws to match new case running two video cards crunching ALL my cuda WU's currently.
Then on two other machines replaced old Silver paste on CPU to improve heat transfer.
Blew dust out of both laptops, that were slowly heating up over time.

Overclocked my i7-950 from the stock 3.07 Ghz to 3.6 Ghz. Have to wait until winter to go higher as the air temp in the room is 80F.

Installed BOINC on a WinXP guest VM on my desktop. Desktop ran out of Rosetta wu's do to the rb purge so now the VM is crunching away.... :-bd
man does my machine need wire rerouting! its a mess i may take it in to be cleaned and wires hidden. might as well have new thermal paste put on too. im seriousely thinking about a new gpu maybe even the gtx590.
New SSD Hard drive arrived today. Installed it and cloned my "C" drive using Acronis. Boot time for the I7 went down to approx 23 seconds and my Performance index went up to 7.2. I thinkj it will go up a little more when I get my GTX 465 graphics card back from the RMA that I sent to Evga and have it running in SLI mode.
I had no problem installing the SSD. For now it is just sitting on one of my HD trays. I will get an adapter next. I should of just gotten one when I ordered the SSD. Live and learn.
@C303a, I will mail you the adapter for your SSD if you still need one. I have the OEM one that came in the box with the new Corsair Force GT SSD for Cheetah -and cool thing is that Thermaltake case has mounting points for the SSD as well as 3.5" HDDs. So...it says "Corsair" on it, but other than that it's a little black piece of metal with some holes in it. :D Just let me know...
I did do one cool thing - Al stand up and take a bow - he hounded me so much I finally installed TeamViewer on every computer! :) Very cool program there, after trying it out today, I would highly recomend it!
Thanks Dr. Pop but I have an adapter coming from the Egg. It was cheap and it will make the counting easier. I just have it sitting on one of the trays for a HD right now.
I have just one regret on the SSD...Why didn't I get one sooner!
just back online. last night virus's and my wife destroyed my os so i upgraded to win 7 home premium. setting it up now.
...last night virus's and my wife destroyed my os...
hahaha!!! :)) =)) :-" ohhhhhhh man, that is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Thanks Greg, I really needed a good laugh about now. I can just picture it, really I can....LOL! :D
Replaced a cmos battery and reset the bios in my Arcade Legends Arcade. While I was in there I was looking to see if it could crunch.......this crunching thing is obviously a sickness isn't it? @-) My wife is now happy! Arcade legends works and so do the circa 1980's Centipede, Galaga and Tron. Now if I could only get the Black Hole pinball working I'd be in like Flynn.

Nothing today. Two weeks ago or so I upgraded my Uncle's system with the PSU he ordered. One Rosewill 630W unit. And then a few days later went to Micro Center for his OCZ Agility 4 128GB SSD. 1st one I've ever had the chance to play with. Now, I MUST have one!!! That thing is smoking fast! His Boot time, Power on to desktop with all his "stuff" loaded, dropped from 3.5+ minutes to a shade over 45 seconds.

Is it running MAME ? Love old style arcade games.. was heavily into MAME for a long time, even helping out with it in the VERY early days - ~'95, think my name is on the whatsnew.txt for mame 14 or something like that for a quick fix to BombJack :)

It emulates the old games, but I don't believe the Arcade Legends uses MAME. They use an OS/emulator called Joshua. Maybe that's the same thing. I like it, but I prefer the older, 1980s, versions...though they can be a pain to keep running. Actually, I've been pretty lucky, most of my games now have modern power supplies and I have working backup pcbs. If you get to Chapel Hill (that goes for any team member) give me a heads up and I'll fire up the games and have a cold beer ready.

Today is upgrade day here! Time to move out the old first gen i5 processor and install the new i7-3930k. A nice compliment to the recent addition of a Radeon 7950. Should make that 10m milestone happen before the weekend and the 50m happen in the very near future:p

Well, it was actually yesterday, but I got the wireless working on my newly reborn server (I may need to rename it Phoenix). I moved it to the living room to be a media server/boinc client/living room space heater.
So, I've had two different AMD boards in that case. Hopefully, the 3rd time's the charm with this Intel board.

Gotta love the multi use capabilities of these things. I'm sure you've missed an additional thing or two it can do. :p

It's also a good background noise generator. I could probably drop the fan speeds down a little.

Moved Blackie's hardware from the Arc Midi case to wooden open frame. Then I stuffed the Arc Midi with the DrPop hardware. Only problem I'm having is with the Corsair Nova2 SSD. Not reading/writing any faster then a lappy HDD. I think I found a solution with non-OEM firmware. Will give it try sometime this week.... :-ss

Upgraded RAM to ridiculous (for VMs) and installed windows 8 (and the classic shell to make it into Windows 7). Windows 8 - hello - it's a computer - not a phone. MAYBE if I had a touchscreen...but... definitely not now.

Question: Is the Win7 shell included? Or do you have to jump through hoops to find it?

Had money burning a hole in my business funds pocket yesterday, so I upgraded a MSI 450GTS with an Nvidia GTX 660ti. And reduced run time for the Milkyway Wu's currently running through it(17 -> 13 minutes).
Might dig out an old XP drive and see about running the machine under Windows, instead of the Sabayon Linux on it right now. AH! The ease of using drive trays to change O.S. !!!!!! ;)

It's pretty great, especially for free.
No idea what MS was thinking - make a PC into...a phone? Seriously - Metro. I've been working in computers for many years - linux (slackware - that was fun), OS/2, OSX or whatever apple is pushing, and of course, Windows in all it's forms and flavors and ways of BSODing. Never run into an OS that made me go - WTF - when I started it. Metro - a screen for people that really don't want a computer. Everything on Metro - I can do from...my phone.... Understood - pot is legal in Washington now - it wasn't when they were making this OS...
Sure, latest phones are impressive - quad core and all - but still a toy compared to a respectable PC.
Windows 8 Pro is pretty nice, once you get the shell and get away from Metro (again..really?) - stable and fine. Make sure to download Media Center for it - it's free for a while.

1st, there is another system in my crunching garden, thanks to DrPop. ^:)^ >:D< And Trinity (http://donateathome.org/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4630) is her name.
Over the last few days, I've been working on trying to get my systems stable. Lost one of the 5870s I received from zombie. Turns out some of the VRMs are failing. When the card starts crunching, several of the VRMs temps, in a not so slow fashion, begin rising higher then normal until several of them pass 106C then they go into thermal runaway and the card crashes hard. :(( Took awhile to figure this out as I have personally never witnessed a GPU do this.....
A pic of it just before failure (Here @1920x1200 (http://imageshack.us/a/img248/8663/shd5870.jpg))
Also been working on the R6970 EmSti sent. UPS beat the f'n crap out of it!!! Cooler is almost fubar. Circuit board is in good shape. Keep your fingers crossed on the rest...
