So we replaced the motherboard on a family friend's computer and had to reinstall windows. Tried using the Win7 Professional 64-bit installation disc that I have and then using the CD key on the side of the case and of course it said CD Key doesn't match UPC code of the current installation. If anyone has an installation disc that they could image to where I could d/l the .iso that'd be extremely helpful.

Is the key OEM or retail?

I have both. :D

It's a HP box, so I assume it's an OEM. Bought as a complete package.

Man, sorry for the delay. Loooong day yesterday with a huge chunk of it trying (unsuccessfully) to get my FTP and Torrent servers onto the net. Won't bore you with details...

So I have a workaround for my lack of IT skills. I ended up using two file hosting sites for the Win7 installer ISO image. The ISO is contained in Rar archive split in two parts. Once you DL the files use WinRar (Here (http://www.oldversion.com/WinRAR.html)) to extract the complete ISO file. BTW, I would suggest grabbing version 3.93 as I think version 4.x have a 40 day trail limit.

As to using the image file you have two choices:

1) You can burn the image to DVD disk

2) Use WinSetupFromUSB (Here (http://code.google.com/p/winsetupfromusb/downloads/list)) to install Win7 from a 4GB or larger USB stick (Thumb Drive). Note that WinSetup will reformat the thumb drive before writing the ISO image. Installing from a thumb drive is a lot faster then any optical medium.

I will PM the DL links to you as soon as I post this.

Sorry, I read the PM before I saw your post. Of course, can't access them from work. Will have to try when I get home.:(

7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org ) is freeware (not shareware or trialware) and supports zip, rar, gzip, and a multitude of other compression types. It also has its own 7-zip compression (file extension .7z) which compacts better than RAR or Zip and can be run either via the GUI or command line parameters for the non-QWERTY challenged.

Ah yes.... Forgot about 7z. I use WinRar mainly because it supports most archive formats. Its a great electric can opener.... I'll install 7z again for a look see. Thx Slicker.

DL'd a copy of winrar 3.93. Unfortunately it's a trial also. When extracting the files, I'm going to end up with 2 ISO files. How do I combine them to make 1 bootable DVD? Forgive the ignorance, but I'm used to working with DVD files and not ISO images. Doh!

Edit: My bad. maybe looking at this wrong. Are these 2 different versions of win7?

Edit2: Was able to combine the 2 files 2 1 ISO image attempting burn now. DOH!!!

I was trying to install Windows 7 on my computer and with those indications all I got was confused. Is there any link for a trial of windows 7?

For a 90-day trial of the Enterprise-version of win7, goto http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/evalcenter/cc442495.aspx

You must login with your live-id, and possibly answer a few questions. If so, remember to not choose "home" or "personal computer" or something similar as an answer. ;)

All versions of Win7 have a built-in 120 day trail period, although M$ makes it look like only 30 days.

There is a legitimate way to use the extra 90 days (30 day initial + 90 days extended), see Windows 7 - Activation Trial Period - Extend Up to 120 Days. (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/875-activation-trial-period-extend-up-120-days.html)

There is another site that states you can get a full year of trial time but I do not know if this is by M$ design, see Extend Windows 7 Trial Period Up To One Year. (http://www.techtipsgeek.com/extend-windows-7-trial-period-up-to-one-year/3886/)

The 120 day trail should be sufficient for most people.....

Hmm, seeing the Enterprise-version has only 10 days before must be activated, and the "rearm-trick" is to extend the pre-activation for 3 extra times, not sure how you'll managing to get 120 days out of this...

30 days initial trail period + (3 x 30 day trials [extended]) = 120 days total. This works with any retail/OEM Windows 7 install. Maybe the MSN has been reworked to exclude this. But there are dozens of valid torrents of Win7 installer ISOs so why bother with an MSN version...?

I now this works because I have used it quite a few times, with Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate & Corporate editions. :D

It was a very good fight and is over, I am sorry. I was out for 48 hours or so but I won. It is installed and running as the GPU, BOINC, and POEM is fiinnaly running 4 tasks. One thing that is puzzling me is that MSI Afterburner didn't work on WIN 7, I have lost complete control and monotorization of the GPU and CPU. Any help about this?

Hehehehehe...........

Ended up extracting the files to a thumb drive. I set the boot option to the removable media, but it didn't start automatically. Good news with Win7 is you can start it from the windows environment which I did. Went through the entire install and then asked for key code. Typed it in and it said it wasn't valid for this version. I kinda caught out of the corner of my eye that it had an OEM code on the screen, which was not the code I had typed, so I retyped my key code and hit submit again and walla, I'm activated. Thanks for all the help. Now i'm trying to figure out why there's a wirless network with his name on it running from his house where he doesn't have internet? It's password protected and he doesn't know the password. Why does everything need to be so hard.:)

Great, glad it worked out. =D> <:-P

If he is using a router/switch for his home network switch then it probably has built-in WiFi. First get the user manual for the unit. If he does not have one you can DL it from the manufacture's website. In the manual look for the factory default user ID & password. Next you will need find the reset button on the back, then press and hold it for 5~10 seconds before releasing it. This will reset the unit to factory defaults then you can log in and disable WiFi if he doesn't use it.

Good Luck.....

I have a message that I have only one day for using win7. So it is counting only 30 days, shouldn't be 90 days? What can I do to have more 30 days?

Trilogy 2.8 will do the trick.
1006

1) Unzip to its own folder and double-click the Trilogy 2.8.cmd file.
2) In the command window that appears, Press the "A" key for IR5 then Enter key.
3) Press the "E" key then Enter for instructions. Read them carefully.
4) When you are ready to install press the "A" key then Enter.

If you have any problems let me know.

Note: It is illegal to use this program after the full 120 trial period has completed.

There is a program called 7 loader. Use at your own risk. There is also youtube video to show you how to use it. For legal reasons, only use it if you are joking around.[-X

No need for that. I will buy the end of this month once the enterprise version of WinXP64 is giving me problems. It is only to have some more time.

Thanks the same CB. I will see that more for curiosity. I am finishing a video for the team and will post in about one hour.

 Well I am a walking disaster, nothing worked and this s*** is shutting down after sometime and Boinc has a lot of projects without checkpoint.

I don't know where the instructions are and no instruction are showed.

The loader 7 sites finish on a FBI screen.

I am really the apocalypse in person.:-s
