Fund a cheap source for PCIe x16 Bus extension cables on eBay (here (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=15&_from=R40&_nkw=pcie+flexible+extender&LH_PrefLoc=1))

Well I can personally attest to the usefulness of these extenders. I used mine on my AMD 810 system before I tore it down to build my son's system. Quality is above average. And it worked without issue.

And the pics.

Because of this thread (http://www.setiusa.us/showthread.php?4150-Do-you-think-if-I-should-continue-with-this-or-not), thought i'd post a link to this alternate extender: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCIe-x16-Flexible-Extender-Cable-w-Molex-/150620070281?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item2311a7e189

Yeah, I have seen those before. Just to clarify, does the Molex supplement the 12v of the PCIe slot or are the PCIe 12v lines disconnected on the adapter and the Molex replaces them?

On this one it appears to be a supplement, which is fine with me. I've seen ones where the 12v line is disconnected and tbh they look really fragile since the last 2 wires are removed from the bundle, then one of those is stripped down hanging by itself :/

Are these extenders long enough to run the gpu external to the case? For instance, can the extender stick out the card slot in the back far enought to plug in a gpu?

Considering moving 6970 external securing it in place somehow instead of selling off gpu.

Mine wouldn't be, but you can use 2 of them to get more length.

I think you may be in error Al, at least with the extenders I linked to. The main issue is degradation of signal over distance. So the longer the cable the greater the chance for data to become unreadable. And the frequencies at which the PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 buses communicate, this problem will occur in a very short distance. The solution is to use shielded cable which is much more expensive. For a 12~24 inch extender with shielding, expect to pay $40~$100 for the privilege of ownership.

I think i figured out a way I can suspend a gpu below the Sabertooth motherboard. I top mounted the PSU, so I have room and the video contectors can point out the back where the bottom mount PSU would be. Might even modify the plate used to fill that PSU hole to help support the GPU.

Which ebayer did you buy from? Might as well go with a tested source.

Wouldn't be the 1st time, but I've used 2 before without a problem. Maybe they were different, but they only cost about $20 each IIRC.

Ordered 2 from http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-PCI-E-16X-Riser-Card-Flex-Flexible-Ribbon-Extender-Extension-Cable-/290785275450?forcev4exp=true&forceRpt=true

Yeah, at $20 a pop they were most likely shielded. But hey, if I'm wrong then I'm wrong... right?

Just checked on things and no changes in credit and no errors so using two cheap extenders seem to work fine so it might work for you aswell.. Good Luck.
