Tell my why it won't work, or why I shouldn't build it... :-??

P.S. If an admin comes across this thread, can you please fix the thread name? tank -> talk

Nice build. Sure you wouldn't rather have a used car? :)

I wish i could find a reason to talk you out of it but i can't. Both builds will work.

One suggestion though: caviar black > caviar blue

depends how many gpus you want to run. The first mobo you could fit 2 and still have nice air flow around them If you did a custom water block you could fit 4, but you would still have to worry about the power requirements.

The second mb, yea you could fit 2 gpus, but the lower card would choke the air off the upper card. you would run 10-20c hotter on that gpu. I would not do that. I always look for mb that have 2 slots between each slot I want to put a gpu in.

for example this old mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131377
or this current mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131801

good examples of dual gpu mb.

The dual intel is 2.5x the cost. The dual AMD is 2x the cost.

MAN! I really wish there was a way to get more CPU density without increasing cost. Like with GPUs!

If you go with builds #1 or #2 get the H100 instead. It will fit just fine. I sold my 16-port switch so I recently ordered my H100. I will be here by next weekend so if you can wait I'll post a pic.

My Akasa 140mm fans will mount outside the case under the hood (lots of clearance) and the H100 will mount to the top from inside the case.

Done!

Edit: Forgot.... If this will be your primary desktop system then maybe add the OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD for your boot drive. Newegg & Micro Center - $59.99 before $10.00 MIR

Thanks for all the info.

No, this is just a cruncher. My desktop and mobile machines are Macs, of course. :))

That build is almost exactly what I am running on right now.. I got a different MB, all SSD, and the intel closed loop cooler

All I can say to any of the builds is WOW. I've always wanted to do a dual cpu with dual gpus. One day. If I had the cabbage for a dual cpu build like you posted above, I'd go for it.

Build #3 would get you more credits/day just because of the additional GPU space. Or picking up another Big Bang Marshal and some of F$'s PCIe extension ribbons and the Cosmos II, though it prevents using a hex-core CPU.

Or the EVGA SR-X board. Dual Xeons that you can overclock with 7 PCIe slots.

I can only imagine the puddle of drool you must be sitting in right now :p

Not to rain on your build Z but I'm not happy with Corsair atm. The fan controller on my H100 failed within 15 minutes of its first use. And it fried the fans that came with it along with my 2 Akasa 140mm fans

Submitted RMA via Corsair's website but did not get a response until I called their 1-888 #. So this will be my last Corsair product me thinks as they will not replace my Akasa fans.

That sucks big time. I have had no problems with my H100 *crosses fingers* a fine product so far. However the 2nd most important thing to me is costumer service so if they don't do right by you that is a black eye on the company in my book.

Update:

On Thursday I received the H100 replacement. This one works as advertized. Did not need to do a firmware reset and it didn't fry. With the CPU munching on 5 SIMAP threads plus Donate, Dirt & WUProp the CPU hovers between 55~57C. Which is definitely better the the H50 could do. Still I am going to send the Corsair CEO a nastygram since customer support wouldn't even acknowledge my complaint about the first H100 frying my Akasa fans... Not that he will do anything but just to know he knows my ire, works for me.
