View Full Version : Am I reading this right?

I just looked at the stats on PG's home page. Am I reading this right? Did S.G. really pull down 21.5 Mil yesterday on PG alone?
Makes me wonder what we'll be able to crank out when we pull everything off MW, Collatz, DNETC and other projects to fire away at PG for the challenge. Also makes me wonder if they're already close to full-out at PG to see how much they can do, or how much extra they'll be able to bring on board for the challenge.

I hope everyone on our side has already run test apps to make sure everything is ready to go.

I've been tweaking my clocks a little this afternoon. So far, doesn't seem to be making any difference. I may continue to tweek until I find the breaking point.

ill have my new Power supply today for my 2nd rig that is down.. even with that I can only pull about 400k a day on Primegrid..

Going to need some Amazing GPU power to contend with this round.. its going to be brutal

Since MW is down today I did another test run on PG. Still no luck. Only 1 of 4 gpu's is returning valid results. ~X(

Any idea what's causing the errors? Maybe there is still enough time for them to fix something before the challenge. If it's happening to you, it's probably happening to others too...did you try a message at the PG Forums? Just a thought...

Just removed all the drivers with driver sweeper and installed the new CCC 10.12. Now I'm running a few more tasks. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm doing a little better - 11 valid, 8 invalid on my dual 5970 box. Not sure what's going on - PG doesn't have any info from the stderr file on their site.

I don't think it will matter when the race starts that we have more CPUs. The GPUs are going to kill us. The top person right now is getting over 6 million credits per day all by himself. How? 27 GPUs. CPUs just aren't going to cut it in this race.

On the up side, he does have several ATI boxes running and they all look to be using CAL driver "1.4.838". If we can figure out exactly which CCC driver version that is, we may be able to get our ATI cards working. If not, I think we are going to look like the Chicago Bears did this weekend against the Patriots - and for those who are not football fans, let's just say it wasn't pretty.

What have you done? I'm also running 2x5970's. I keep getting the same results. GPU 0 is returning valid results. GPU's 1,2 and 3 run about 4 min longer with invalid results.

The ATI CAL 2.2/OpenCL implementation used by PG does not support all cards that work on MW, DNETC, and Collatz. To see if your ATI card will work on PG's PPS app, check out this list (http://developer.amd.com/gpu/atistreamsdk/pages/default.aspx#five). HD 38xx and lower owners are out of luck.

It looks like the bulk of the cards that we have (48xx, 58xx, 59xx) on this team should work pretty good then. What I don't get is what it's being so picky about on certain people's rigs. I tried Kat's rig today with a 4870 & 4850 combo in it, and it fired right up and started accepting WUs and crunching them immediately, just like my bigger rig with the 5870 & 5850 combo.
Not sure how these two rigs are any different from those that are having problems with the WUs. That's what's so hard about troubleshooting an intermittent problem! ;)

Now, what annoys me to no end is that the GPU app takes .7 CPU per app to run! So it's running both my GPUs and 1.4 cores of my quad just to pump out like half or less of a comparable CUDA card.

So, not only are we at a disadvantage with the GPU credits off the bat; to add insult to injury, it's going to take up more of our precious CPU power (as in a LOT more) to get those lesser GPU credits...ah....

Which brings me to this: Love, War, and BOINC. All is fair in...don't suppose we were ever real nice to say Team Norway or LAF in the past so that they could help us crunch against S.G. and SIC, were we? Yeah...didn't think so either. :D

Any other suggestions?!!! :(|)

A few hours ago I started crunching PG on my i7 since MW is offline and so far no invalid results. Take a look here. (http://www.primegrid.com/results.php?hostid=161928) When I first tried it on Sept 24th I crunched 13 wu's and had only 1 invalid result.

I have Crossfire on (the only way I can get the GPUs to run), and am running 10.11 APP. Aside from that, not sure...

As an added note, with all of this changing drivers going on make sure that you use Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/). You should uninstall the driver package, run driver sweeper (clear out all the ATI related stuff), reboot, install the new driver package. Time and time again I see issues when I try not to do this and just upgrade from 10.10 to 10.11 for example.

X_X Don't look now, but Sic blew by us last Sunday. They didn't even bother to wave on the way by.

We as a team are now in 3rd place.

Remember when we wanted a project to give us a GPU app? b-(

That's because ATI decided not to support the 38xx series cards for OpenCL. You need at least a 4xxx series card and I'm not sure all of those are even listed. I think I posted a link for the ATI OpenCL supported systems earlier in this thread.

Ahh, not supported. I thought all double precision cards were good. Thanks for the update. Back to Collatz with it.

The problem is that ATI didn't fully implement OpenCL in its cards until the 5xxx series. So Double Precision can only work with apps coded with ATI's CAL/Stream API not OpenCL.
