Heeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaack...

Well, not at my former crunching power, but I do have 8 CPUs going.... Took a bit to track down the new site, as well... I made a couple posts on the old one, and when I got no replies, I decided to start poking around a little further... guess I found it...

Now to see if anyone actually remembers me. :)

Welcome back! Glad you found your way here. Very cool to meet you.

Although I've never met you, I recall having seen your nic mentioned by Beerdrinker. You are a Ham Radio Operator?

Anyhoot, make yourself at home.

Peace,
F$

First, thank you for the replies and the warm welcomes.

Yes, I am an Amateur Extra HAM. I don't have much going in the way of radios right now, but that is all tied in to why I had to stop crunching a few years ago... Finances happened.

I'm interested in crunching mathematics (ABC, PrimeGrid) and astronomy (MilkyWay, Einstein, Orbit). I don't do Biomedical primarily because of the "Who is going to profit feduciarily?" issue.

I remember Beerdrinker and a few others from way back in the day.

Current hardware is an AMD FX-8130 with 32G DDR3-1600 and an nVidia GS550Ti. Current plans are to acquire another 550Ti, and to get one of my older C2Qs going again. I run on Linux, currently Ubuntu.

Back when I was crunching before I had 12 machines going with at least two cores each, and I managed them all remotely while I was on the road (I used to drive a truck for a living.) Now I've got a "real" job that has me working 10-12 hour days fairly constantly.

That's really about it, for now... Need to hop on WoW and do my dailies before work.

Enjoy.

How can one forget a team8 from the great intra-team Einstein challenge in which we took 1st place? Welcome back!

WELCOME BACK!!

I miss alot of the old farts that used to hang around here. But I also made a bunch of new friends in the meantime. I am so glad to have you back!!! You shouldenīt by chance know what happend to Steve and SargeD?

I can remember that cool truck, and you love for Linux and math projects.

You should also check up on Primaboinca. Itīs CPU only and gives very decent credit. A C2Q should give you around 9-10.000 credits per day...

So awesome to have you back on board, Sideband! :) I'm actually studying to take my HAM test soon, and one of my patients has loaned me a portable 2M / 440 Yaesu radio to play with. Maybe someday after I get my test done, I'll get big-time enough to work through a repeater and have a rag-chew. :D

Nice to meet you Sideband and welcome back. Very interesting that our background is similar with regards to Amateur Radio and Computers. I gave up both about 30 years ago for similar reasons as you. I had a 50 ft wind up tower and I used to send so much power up there that the neighbors complained that I should change my voice for it is not very pleasant when they were trying to watch their favorite show. I held an Extra Licences as well and my call sign was VK4ZM. Whilst I will not return to the old days, I am enjoying my computers and friends I met in BOINC.
