So I was recently introduced to the incentives of what can be done with old computer parts... A family friend told me that he has sold old motherboards, RAM, cards, processors, etc for Gold reclaimation. I started compiling all the items I have in bins (CD Roms that are not burners, old CPU's, SD Ram, SODIMM (regular DDR) less than 512mb chips). I am trying to compile a large lot in order to entice buyers. I have been told that Ebay is the best way to go there, but trying to sell w/out using Ebay first (want to avoid listing fees). If anyone has items that are too old or not working and not worth attempting to repair I would be willing to accept them.

I also posted on craigslist to get any items that people in the area here didn't want and got a lot of like 5 desktops and 11 laptops (5 of which had no HD's so scavenged them). The laptops didn't have AC adapters so was able to test two of the complete laptops and they work. The other 3 or 4 that I have cannot test.

Very interesting. Hope this proves financially beneficial for you.

My post on Craigslist looks to have gotten me a dual-core HP Pavilion with 4GB of DDR2 running Media Center. Only issue seems to be the onboard RAID controller is glitchy but I don't use RAID so all I have to do (as I gave my word) is run the recovery partition to reset it back to factory specs, check if the Geforce 7100 can crunch, if not swap out the GPU and have a nice new media PC to replace the other one that crapped out on me.

Yep! Up and running SIMAP and WUProp now Link (http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=hostbycpid&cpid=65cde0b2e8ca688ae7380d2e52a4daca)

I need to remove the Geforce 7500 that is currently installed and put my 9600GSO in there to get it crunching on a GPU too. Can't go too high on the GPU right now as it only has a 450w PSU.

Got an Emachines desktop and cheap compaq laptop off of my motorcycle forum! Just racking up the components here...

On the positive side, got a Toshiba laptop up and running (2.4Ghz, 512mb RAM, 40Gb hd). Was going to sell it on craigslist for $55 (no ac adapter) but wife ended up wanting it. I have a few other complete laptops that I was able to test that work so going to check into selling those as well. Not a bad way to accumulate components. If they don't work, then you can recycle them by selling to scrappers.
