Congrats, that is a tough one. It would be nice if the project would allow you to just request work on Beta so you could put it at high priority and run other projects. Unless things have changed you have to have one of the active projects selected.

Thanks. I am not pushing hard as POGS is #1 right now. Shame about the retired AP26 and TPS LLR as I can never move up in them. Not to mention the 321 & Cullen/Woodall suspended sub-projects.

If I had started PG in 2007 instead of 2008, I might have snagged those projects.

On another note, my wuprop star gains seem to be stuck. Does anyone know who BU isn't moving in hours towards my third star? Weeks of giving it a good work over, the app hours seem to be stuck. Maybe with the next release of convector work I'll gain another app over 100 hours.

Have you had consistent internet service over the last few days? It looks like you haven't been receiving/returning WUProp tasks regularly: http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=user&proj=wup&name=8378

Also, under WUProp Preferences you can select "Should WUProp@Home show app hours statistics on your account data page and export statistics?" which will populate more data on the above Free-DC stats page.

I've had WUProp behave like an insolent child at times - I've found that my hours were stuck, only to realize that it had somehow been set to No New Tasks or some similar nonsense. So check the easy stuff before the hard stuff. :p

Right now I'm having to conserve power. Plus my internet IS being flaky. It tends to not like wet, humid and cold days. WUProp is running only on one box since I've had to re-do everything and will have to re-do everything again here when the current challenge is over. I do need to change the bootup drive on my c2q and get that cache cleared out......that's if it wasn't put away at the moment. I just had to wonder since everything else I'm crunching is gaining hours while BU is just sitting there.

Nice! Gotta get the Ebola work while we can. I should have the 180 Day badge by tonight's update... then on to 1yr and 2yr badges within a couple weeks. Work is steady now but one never knows... which is why I'm hoarding as much work as possible and using ThrottleStop to slow my CPUs down :D

WCG goes by cpu time for badges. The only project I know of that does. It's kinda kool that way cuz you can throw an older machine on it and earn a badge in the same time as a new fast machine. That works if your a badge hooe....
So let's say your running 4 threads on one machine,.. In 24 hours, that machine will do 4 days of cpu time.
14 days of cpu tme gets the bronze.

The secret to WCG is to download and run about 20 WU several days before a challenge. It takes 5 validated WU for a computer to become "trusted" where you don't need a wingman. If you have an invalid or abort a WU then a trusted computer goes back to untrusted until you get 5 more validated. All new WU downloaded will need a wingman. If you start with an untrusted computer and load up the cache then all WU you loaded will need a wingman. You want to keep the cache size very small until you have the 5 validated WU and then you can open it up.

I had 5 7970s at the time and was pulling 5+ million PPD. 32 WUs at a time on each card really racked up the run time.

WCG has nothing to do with what app any project decides to use. That must come from the project scientists. The HCC app was originally a CPU app but some people associated with the original project were able to port it to GPUs. The GPUs took what would have been 5+ years of work and finished it in a few months. I was just in the right place at the right time to take advantage of it. Why any of the projects that have started since HCC ended have not been ported to GPUs I have no idea. Seems like a no brainer to me but maybe the porting process is not as easy for these newer projects. Keep hearing rumors that a new Help Fight Childhood Cancer project is in the wings but have heard nothing about whether it will GPU compatible or not. One can only hope. Even if it happens I sold off all my 7970s and could never put up the outrageous (for WCG) numbers I did with the HCC project.

Well, I'm approaching my second, so let's make it a race. :) I'm also most of the way to the next (fictitious) level. But I guess I'll need to get there and then publicly post my lament that it meant nothing. :))

I had stopped looking at new apps a whole back, as only the top 100 showed in the wuprop badge, and I was already well past 5 stars. But now things have changed, and there is profit in working the long tail.

I did a bit of spreadsheet work. Turns out that only ~155 of my 335 apps are still active, and ~180 are dead. There are only a few active apps that I have no hours accrued. So there is not nearly as much opportunity to add stars on after all. I can improve colors of existing stars, and maybe add one more star. That's it.

And this stupid broken Van Der Waerden Numbers project is taking up all my cycles for now anyway. Grrr.

I really dislike having dead projects. Really gives me pause to attach to anything new, when I know projects like WCG, PG or Einstein for example, will be around a long time. So there is much more motivation on a major long running project with more time invested.

SRbase is a good project?

I've been running it a bit this year, and I think it's generally a good project. The 8 sub-projects have work at different times, so when I'm running SRBase I leave a few of them checked and use the project_max_concurrent tag in app_config. I think the "short" sub-projects tend to pay better.

The only problem I've had is some system instability (crashing/restarting) on a couple of my machines. I never got to the bottom of it, but others have had the same issue. Could be the AVX apps, but I can't say for sure.

SRbase is a good project?
I think so, generally. I did have a restart over the weekend, but I'm not sure it was SRBase. My advice would be to uncheck the "long" subproject (unless you want it for badges/hours), but run all the others. Pay is pretty good and work is steady. I like the project, personally.

I had a total shutdown of an i7, but have worked though that issue. It was heat related and I simply run that machine on 4 cores, with HT off. The other i7s had no issue at all running 8 threads and my t5500s run 23 threads without a hicup. Work is consistent, except on the only app I need a badge.

Edit: just got my 9th badge on SRBase.

In your forum "settings" go to EDIT SIGNATURE. In that box put [img]link[img] link is the url of your badges. I use this one: BADGES (http://signature.statseb.fr/)

You can play around with the number of columns, rows, and background color on that site till you get what you want.
