In 2012 ASUS (22.2 million) and Gigabyte (19 million) combined shipped ~46% of all motherboards. In 3rd place ASRock shipped 7 million, MSI 6 million, and ECS, Biostar, Foxconn, Intel and a couple of other companies filled up the remainder.

As i mentioned in another thread awhile back, Intel is leaving the motherboard business, even though they shipped 5 million units in 2012, putting them in 5th place.

But so far this year, Q1 2013, ASUS has shipped 5 million and Gigabyte has shipped 4.9 million. So close! What will Gigabyte do in the months to come to sway things their way? It'll be an interesting battle for sure.

Sounds like good news for consumers.

Hmmm...now this image from Gigabyte is interesting: http://cdn3.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Z87-G1-Killer.jpg

Notice the PCB is made of glass fiber. Why? Water proof.

So you have computer problems, you can fix 'em with just a little Bondo (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM6014159105P?ci_src=184425893&ci_sku=SPM6014159105&sid=IDx20130125xMPALLx028)? :)

No the G1-Killer is a series. The one pictured has an Z87 chipset on it. The "killer" comes from having the Bigfoot Killer E2100 NPU (Network Processing Unit) on the board with 1GB of it's own RAM, which is dedicated to internet tasks.

Edit: Here's some teaser pics of an MSI Big Bang somethingorother also with a Z87 chipset: http://www.benchtec.co.uk/forums/threads/13238-MSI-Big-Bang-Z87-XPower-Motherboard-Teased?p=110560#post110560
