According to Intel's most recent roadmap, they may release an i7-4771 CPU in Q3. What is it? No clue. **Update:**
The mystery of Core i7-4771 is cracked, too. While the unlocked Core i7-4770K features 3.50 GHz clock speed and 3.90 GHz Turbo Boost, the "locked" Core i7-4770 starts out at 3.40 GHz clock speed, and 3.90 GHz Turbo Boost. The Core i7-4771 is an intermediate. It features the clock speeds of the i7-4770K (3.50 nominal, 3.90 GHz Turbo Boost), while being "locked" like the i7-4770. We expect it to eventually replace the i7-4770 from the product stack.

Edit: Haswell is still a useless desktop CPU. I'm just simply reporting what i'm finding :)

Also beginning in Q4 is the first shot we'll have at something better than a 4770K. Although it wouldn't be anything more special than the difference between a 2600K and a 2700K, it's still something.

Also in Q4 is the first chance at IB-E releasing something better than the 4960X, which comes out in Q3.

Haswell refresh in Q2 next year, which also includes the introduction of the Z97/H97 chipsets.

I notice that i7-4771 is missing the "K" at the end. Hmmm...:-?

As usual, I'm confused. I picked the IB-k and Haswell-k at newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%2050001157%20600005573%20600315409&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=343%7C19%2D116%2D901%5E19%2D116%2D 901%2DTS%2C19%2D116%2D501%5E19%2D116%2D501%2DTS&percm=19%2D116%2D501%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24

That page shows IB at 77w and haswell at 84w. I thought the big deal with haswell was the reduction in power consumption. But it looks like worse power consumption. Surely I am reading this wrong?

You are correct and not reading it wrong. Haswell on Desktop levels is a flop. Stick with either the Socket 2011 SB-e and future IB-e or for a cheaper / better electricity consumption, get the i7 3770K. That is the best of the best as far as efficiency in $ per KW paid out per credit.

@ zombie, the higher TDP is do to the much faster GPU. 2x faster than the one that comes with the ivy bridge.

Ah! That explains it. Thanks!
